Concrete Removal & Demolition in Cambridge
We break out and haul away old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs across Cambridge, in Galt, Preston, Hespeler and the newer surveys between them. Near the Grand and the Speed, the ground holds more damp, so removal is the chance to check the base before anything new goes in. On the higher moraine ground and in newer subdivisions, we plan the removal around what goes back in. Quotes are free and written, with the breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

Cambridge is three old towns joined into one, and its ground changes between them. Down by the Grand and Speed rivers the water table is higher. Up on the moraine the soil is sand and gravel. Newer lots sit on disturbed fill. See our Cambridge page for everything else we do in the city.
The removal itself follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Cambridge ground and Cambridge homes change about that job.
Old Galt and Preston: find out why the slab moved
The river-valley cores of old Galt and Preston carry a higher water table, and foundations down near the water take on more damp than houses on higher ground. Taking the old concrete out is the easy part. What we see once it is out is the useful part.
With the concrete gone, we look at the base, where the downspouts empty and how the ground drains. If the base is holding water, we dig it out and rebuild it before anything new goes in. Near an older stone or brick foundation, we can look at basement waterproofing in Cambridge while the ground beside it is open.
Higher ground and new lots: plan the tear-out around the new pour
Away from the rivers, much of Cambridge sits on moraine sand and gravel. Sand drains well, so frost heaves a slab less than it does on clay. But sand also erodes, so slab edges need their bases contained and their runoff steered away, and we plan that into the new base.
In the newer subdivisions of Galt, Preston and Hespeler, the ground is disturbed fill, and a small pad or narrow driveway may come out to make room for a bigger pour. Doing the tear-out and the new pour as one job means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open. See concrete driveways in Cambridge and concrete patios in Cambridge for what goes back in.
Booking removal in Cambridge
Cambridge is the closest Waterloo Region city to our Brant County routes, reached through Paris and Ayr, so removal jobs here book into the regular weekly schedule in season.
A small machine needs about a 36 inch gate. Where it cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Why did my driveway near the river in Galt or Preston sink or heave, and will a new one do the same?
The cores of old Galt and Preston sit low near the Grand and the Speed, where the water table is higher. When we take the old slab out, we check the base and the drainage before the new pour, so the new slab does not go on the same wet base.
Can you take out concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?
Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so we put it in the written quote after the site visit.
How much does concrete removal cost in Cambridge?
The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
What happens to the old concrete?
Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
