Concrete Contractors in Durham Region
My Concrete Pros pours and repairs residential concrete across Durham Region, from the lakeshore cities of Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Bowmanville up to the moraine towns of Uxbridge and Port Perry. Union-certified crews handle driveways, patios, garage pads and steps, plus the parging, repair and basement waterproofing the lakeshore asks for. Quotes are free and the labour is warranted for life.
Durham is the east end of the Greater Toronto Area, eight municipalities spread from the Lake Ontario shore north into farm country and the headwater hills. The south is suburb: Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Bowmanville line the lake as the eastern reach of the 905 belt, and they are still filling in, with the region planning for a million people by 2041. The north is rural, the moraine towns of Uxbridge and Port Perry and the Brock villages beyond them.
It is a working region with a building history. Oshawa grew up around the General Motors plant and is the biggest city in Durham; the nuclear stations at Pickering and Darlington anchor the lakeshore; and new communities like Seaton in Pickering, Kedron in north Oshawa and the Brooklin edge of Whitby are turning old farmland into subdivisions one survey at a time.
That mix decides the concrete work. The lakeshore cores hold older housing that needs repair, parging and the busiest service in the region, basement waterproofing. The new surveys above and behind them want the finishing pours a builder skips: a real patio, a wider driveway, a garage pad, a walkway that stays out of the mud. We do both across Durham with one set of paperwork, a free written quote and a lifetime warranty on the labour.

What the ground here does to concrete
Durham gives you three kinds of ground in one region, and concrete is built differently on each. Up north, the Oak Ridges Moraine runs under Uxbridge and the top of Pickering, a ridge of glacial sand and gravel that drains fast and is why Uxbridge calls itself the Trail Capital of Canada. Through the middle is the South Slope, a till plain of clay-loam that heaves with frost and holds water the way clay always does. Along the lake is the old Lake Iroquois shoreline, a plain of mixed beach sand and clay where the water table sits close under the older streets.
The lakeshore is where the water work clusters. Lake Ontario throws freeze spray at the shore towns through winter, the Iroquois plain keeps a high water table near the lake, and the pre-war and postwar housing in the Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa cores was never sealed to a modern standard. Put that together and basements take on water every spring melt and fall rain. Add freeze-thaw and road salt across the whole region, and base prep is what decides how a pour ages, whether it sits on moraine sand, South Slope clay or the shoreline plain.
Building across Durham Region
What we pour depends on which ground a lot sits on and how old the street is. The lakeshore cores of Oshawa, old Whitby, Ajax and south Pickering lean to repair, parging and waterproofing on older housing near a high water table. The growth ends, Seaton, north Oshawa, Brooklin and the Bowmanville surveys, want the first patios, garage pads and driveways a builder leaves out. Up on the moraine, Uxbridge and Port Perry mix heritage downtowns with estate and rural lots that take the bigger flatwork. The city pages below get specific on each centre.
Durham sits at the far east end of the GTA, the other side of Toronto from our home routes, so we book Durham jobs into planned trips east along the lakeshore and give you real dates rather than a same-week promise.
- Pickering Pickering sits at the far west edge of Durham, the east side of Toronto and a long drive from our home routes, so we hold Pickering jobs for planned trips into the area and give you firm dates rather than a same-week or same-day promise.
- Ajax Ajax sits on the Durham lakeshore at the far east end of the GTA, the other side of Toronto from our home routes in the southwest, so we are not minutes away and will not pretend to be. We book Ajax work into planned trips east along the lake and give you real dates rather than a same-week promise.
- Whitby Whitby sits on the Durham lakeshore over on the east side of Toronto, a long way from our southwest-Ontario routes, so we group Whitby jobs into planned trips out that way and book you a real date rather than promising same-week.
- Oshawa Oshawa sits at the far east end of the GTA, well past Toronto from our southwest Ontario routes, so we fold Oshawa jobs into planned trips east along the lakeshore and book you a real date instead of a same-week promise.
- Bowmanville Bowmanville is the furthest east of the Durham towns we cover, the far end of the lakeshore and the longest run from our southwest Ontario routes, so we book Clarington jobs into planned trips east and give you a real date rather than a same-week promise.
- Uxbridge Uxbridge is up in north Durham, a fair drive north of the GTA and well off our home routes in southwestern Ontario, so we group Uxbridge jobs into planned trips into the area and give you real dates rather than a same-week call.
- Port Perry Port Perry sits up in north Durham on Lake Scugog, a long way from our home routes in southwest Ontario, so we group Scugog work into planned trips up that way and book you a real date rather than promising same-week. Tell us the job and we will give you the next honest window we can get a crew there.
Smaller communities we serve
- Courtice A fast-growing Clarington community between Oshawa and Bowmanville, mostly newer subdivisions.
- Newcastle A historic Clarington village east of Bowmanville, near the Lake Ontario shore.
- Orono A small heritage village in north Clarington, inland from the lake.
- Brooklin A historic village core in north Whitby, now ringed by new survey growth.
- Beaverton A Brock township town on the Lake Simcoe shore at the far north of the region.
- Cannington A small Brock township town on the Beaver River in Durham's rural north.
Durham has the moraine in the north and the lakeshore in the south. Does that change how we build a slab?
It does, and it is the main thing we look at before quoting. On the Oak Ridges Moraine under Uxbridge and north Pickering, the ground is glacial sand and gravel that drains fast, so a slab heaves less and the work goes into grading and edge containment. Down on the South Slope clay and the Iroquois shoreline plain near the lake, the ground holds water and heaves when frost gets under a thin base, so the base needs real depth and compaction. We build to the ground your lot is actually on.
Which Durham towns do you cover?
Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Uxbridge and Port Perry have their own pages, and the Clarington communities of Courtice, Newcastle and Orono plus the Brock villages up toward Lake Simcoe book onto the same routes. If your town is not named here, ask. If we can make it work, we will.
Why are wet basements so common along the Durham lakeshore?
Three things stack up near the lake. The Iroquois shoreline plain keeps the water table high, the older Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa neighbourhoods were built before modern sealing, and Lake Ontario weather drives freeze spray and heavy fall rain at the shore. Water finds the weak point in an unsealed wall and pressure pushes it through, which is why basement waterproofing is the busiest concrete search across the south end of the region. We waterproof from the inside or the outside depending on what the wall needs.
Do you take on the big estate and rural driveways up around Uxbridge and Port Perry?
Yes. The moraine country north of the lakeshore has long approach driveways, estate lots and rural properties, and the sand-and-gravel ground up there is good to build on with honest grading. We quote those with a site visit and a written number, pour them on a proper base, and back the labour for life the same as a city driveway.
