Parging in Cambridge
We re-parge the exposed foundation band on Cambridge homes, from the stone and century brick houses of Galt to the newer streets around it. The coat is only half the job here: where your house sits relative to the Grand and Speed rivers decides what we check first. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Cambridge is three old towns joined in 1973: Galt, Preston and Hespeler. Galt's downtown and heritage streets hold the oldest housing, stone and century brick sitting on foundations of the same age.
The method, the bonding agent, the two-pass coat and the mesh, is on our parging page. This page is the Cambridge part: what to check on your lot before the coat goes on. The quote is free and written, and the number on it is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
Old Galt stone and brick: strip before you re-coat
An old stone or brick foundation has an uneven face with many joints. Water gets behind the coat, freezes and pushes it off in plates. Moisture usually comes from behind the wall on these older homes, so a fresh coat over a damp, dusty or crumbling face lasts a season. We sound the band and take loose material right off.
If a crumbling coat has been painted, the paint seals moisture in. Plan on stripping back to sound material before any new coat.
Low ground by the rivers or upland sand: what we check first
Cambridge sits where the Grand and Speed rivers meet. The river-valley cores, much of old Galt and Preston among them, carry a higher water table and a flood history, so a wall in that low ground feeds water to the back of the coat. There we look at where the water goes before we look at the coat, and we tell you at the quote if the wall needs more than parging.
Away from the rivers the ground runs to moraine sand and gravel. Sand drains well but erodes, so a downspout that has dumped at the same spot for years can wash sand out from beside the wall. On upland lots we check the downspouts and the grade along with the coat.
Straight answers
My Galt stone house keeps losing its parging. Is it the coat or the wall?
On older Galt homes it is often the wall. Moisture usually comes from behind it, so a fresh coat over a damp, dusty or crumbling face lasts a season. We sound the band, strip what is loose and tell you at the quote which one you have.
Does my Cambridge lot's position by the rivers change the job?
It changes what we check first. Low ground near the Grand and Speed carries a higher water table, so we look at where the water goes before the coat. Upland sand drains well but erodes, so we check downspouts and grade.
How much does parging cost in Cambridge?
There is no flat rate. Cost is mostly prep, and the height of the exposed band, mesh and access change it. The quote is free and in writing, and we reply within one business day.
