Concrete Repair and Resurfacing in Cambridge, Ontario
We repair cracked, sunken and worn concrete on Cambridge homes: crack injection, slab lifting, resurfacing, step rebuilds and sealing. Old Galt's stone and brick streets and the newer subdivisions each bring their own kind of repair. We find the cause before we quote the fix, and we tell you plainly when a repair will not hold and replacement is the better spend. The quote is free and written, you get a reply within one business day, and the labour carries our lifetime warranty.

Cambridge is three old towns joined in 1973, and its concrete shows the age of each. Galt, at the meeting of the Grand and Speed rivers, was built in local stone in the 1800s. Preston and Hespeler have their own old cores. The newer subdivisions around all three are mostly first-pour country.
Most of the older concrete does not need to come out. A crack can be injected, a sunken slab lifted back to grade, a pitted surface ground and resurfaced, and a broken step formed and re-poured. The full method for each is on our concrete repair and resurfacing page. This page is about what Cambridge's rivers, its sandy ground and its heritage streets change about the job.
River ground and sandy ground: two kinds of repair
Near the Grand and the Speed, the water table runs higher and the valley cores have a flood history. Away from the rivers the ground is moraine sand and gravel. Sand drains well, so frost heaves a slab less than clay would, but it erodes, so slab edges and steps lose their base where runoff is not steered away.
So a Cambridge repair starts underneath. We check the base, the grade and where the downspouts send their water before we quote. A crack filled over a slab that is still moving opens again by spring, and a slab lifted while runoff keeps washing out its base sinks again.
Steps, walks and slabs on the stone streets of Galt
On the older streets of Galt, steps and walks often sit beside stone and century brick, and a repair should look like it belongs there. We match the lines and proportions of what is already in place, and we choose finishes that sit with grey stone rather than fight it. West Galt's Dickson Hill is a protected heritage district, so we work to what the streetscape calls for.
Older concrete has had decades of road salt working on it from the top down. Spalled treads and broken step edges are formed and re-poured with air-entrained 32 MPa mix. A worn surface on a sound walk or step can be ground back and given a bonded overlay instead of a tear-out. Once a surface has pitted badly, sealing slows the damage but cannot reverse it. Past a point, replacement beats another patch, and the written quote tells you which side of that line your concrete is on.
When a crack is a foundation question
A crack in a walk or a garage slab is a repair job. A crack in a basement wall that leaks every spring, or one that keeps growing, is a different question, and near the rivers the water has to be sorted out first.

Straight answers
Should I repair or replace the cracked concrete at my Cambridge home?
It depends on the base. Repair wins when the damage is local and the base under it is still sound: one or two cracks, a slab that settled on one side, surface pitting or a broken step edge. Replacement wins when the slab has cracked all over, the base has failed across the whole area, or the surface has scaled so deep there is nothing sound to bond to. The written quote says which side of that line your concrete is on, and why.
Can you lift a sunken walk or slab instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. We pump material through small holes drilled in the slab to fill the void under it and float it back to grade. Mudjacking uses a sand-and-cement slurry and wants a day or two before traffic; polyurethane foam uses smaller holes and takes traffic the same day. Before we lift, we find out why the base washed out, so the slab does not sink again.
How much does concrete repair cost in Cambridge?
There is no honest flat rate. The cost moves with the size of the area, how far the damage goes, the condition of the base, the repair method, access and the season. The visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
When is the best time to book a concrete repair in Cambridge?
Book whenever you see the damage: the visit and the written quote are free. If water is actively coming into your basement between October and March, you can flag it as urgent in the form.
