What the ground here does to concrete
Brampton sits on the Peel clay plain, and that clay is the single biggest factor in concrete here. It is the heavy, reddish till the whole area is built on, with the Chinguacousy clay running through it: ground that swells when it is wet, heaves when frost reaches under a slab, and drains so slowly it holds melt and rain against a foundation for weeks.
