Concrete Walkways & Steps in Caledon
We build and rebuild concrete walkways, front steps and porches across Caledon, from Bolton subdivisions to farmhouse entrances on rural lots. The base and footings are set to the ground the lot sits on: fast-draining sand and gravel on the Oak Ridges Moraine, or clay that holds water on the low ground. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour. Caledon books into planned trips with firm dates.

A Caledon walkway or set of steps can be two different jobs. In Bolton and the older village cores, it is a town entrance: a path from the driveway to the door and a short flight of front steps. Out on the farms and estate lots, it is often a longer path across the yard to an older farmhouse, with steps that have been through many country winters.
The full method for footings, riser heights, mix and thickness is on our concrete walkways and steps page. This page covers what Caledon ground and Caledon homes change about that job. For everything else we pour and repair here, see our Caledon page.
Moraine sand on one lot, wet clay on the next
Caledon sits where the Niagara Escarpment and the Oak Ridges Moraine meet. The moraine is a deep mix of sand and gravel that drains fast. Lower down, near the creeks and river flats, the ground is often heavy clay that holds water.
A freestanding walkway floats on a drained, compacted granular base, and the finish is sloped to shed water instead of pooling it. We set that base and slope to the ground your lot sits on, which is the first thing we check at the site visit.
Steps and porches that attach to the house
The soil beside a foundation is backfill, and it keeps settling for years. Steps poured straight onto it sink and tip away from the door while the house stays put, which opens a gap that sends water down the foundation wall. New steps and porches that attach to the house get footings dug below the frost line, about 1.2 metres, or get doweled into the foundation wall where that is the sounder detail.
Older village homes and farmhouses often show the signs: a gap between the steps and the wall, a landing that tips away from the door, or treads flaking from road salt. If the wall behind them lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Caledon at the same visit.
Repair, relevel or rebuild?
Not every worn or sunken step needs replacing. Sound steps that have settled can sometimes be lifted back into position once the water problem is fixed. Steps that are cracked through, or have been taking water into their body for years, get rebuilt on proper footings.
We tell you which one you have at the free site visit, and the written quote names each part: the steps, the walkway and the tear-out. Because Caledon is a long haul from our home routes, we book it into planned trips and give you a real date. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
The front steps on our older Caledon farmhouse have pulled away from the wall. Can they be fixed?
Usually, yes. Steps pull away when they sit on backfill that keeps settling while the house, on deep footings, stays put. Solid steps that sank can sometimes be lifted back into position; failed ones get rebuilt on footings below the frost line so it does not happen twice. We check where the water is going at the same visit.
Can you rebuild the walkway and the front steps together?
Yes. Doing them as one project lets us set the path grade, landing height, riser spacing and drainage together, instead of making new work meet a failed piece. The written quote can show the walkway and the steps separately, so you see what each part adds.
How much do new concrete steps or a walkway cost in Caledon?
Steps are quoted by the job, not by area. The number of risers, the total height, the footings, the tear-out of the old set, the length of the path and the ground all drive the cost. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
