Concrete Walkways & Steps in Aurora
We build and rebuild concrete walkways, front steps and entrances across Aurora, from dropped steps on the heritage blocks off Yonge to first side walkways in the newer Bayview surveys. The town sits on Oak Ridges Moraine sand that drains fast but will not hold a base on its own, so the base is contained and compacted before any pour. Union-certified crews, a free written quote and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Aurora asks for entrance work in two settings. In the heritage core around Yonge and Wellington, the call is usually a repair or a replacement, such as front steps that have dropped. In Bayview Northeast and the Bayview Wellington surveys, the builder often poured only the garage strip, and owners call for a side walkway or a landing to finish the job. See our Aurora page for everything else we do in town.
The full method, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the granular base and the uniform risers, is on our concrete walkways and steps page. This page is about what Aurora ground and Aurora homes change about an entrance. The free written quote covers jobs as small as one set of steps.
Moraine sand: the base decides the walkway
Aurora sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine, which is sand and gravel, not the clay under most of our area. Meltwater soaks straight down, so frost heave is the smaller risk here. The bigger risk is loose sand. If the granular under a walkway is not contained and compacted, it migrates and the path settles unevenly.
So we dig to firm ground, place the base in compacted lifts and keep its edges contained. Where steps attach to the house, they go on footings below the frost line. We decide the base on site, after we see your ground.
Heritage core: dropped steps and tired walks
Near Yonge and Wellington the homes have stood a long time. Their front steps settle and their walks crack through. Steps can often be levelled or rebuilt rather than torn out, and we tell you straight when replacing the piece is the better spend. A rebuild starts with tear-out and disposal of the old steps, then firm ground and a new base.
Where a wet spring sends water down a foundation wall beside the steps, see concrete repair and resurfacing in Aurora and the parging page for the wall.
Newer surveys, low lots and booking
In Bayview Northeast and the Bayview Wellington surveys, we add a path to a side or rear door, build a landing, or pour steps on the same compacted base. Tell us the whole list at the site visit: a walkway rides on the same trip as a driveway or a patio.
Low pockets near the Holland River headwaters hold a higher water table, so we grade each walk and tread to shed water away from the house. Aurora is well north in York, reached up the 404, so we group jobs into planned trips and book them on set dates. Small jobs still get a written quote and the lifetime warranty on labour. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Why have my front steps near Yonge and Wellington dropped?
Usually because the ground beside an older foundation has settled under them. Steps can often be levelled or rebuilt rather than torn out. The fix is a firm, compacted base and, where the steps attach to the house, footings below the frost line.
Does a walkway on Aurora's moraine sand need a different base?
It does. The sand drains fast, so frost heave is less of a worry than on clay, but loose sand will not hold a base by itself. We contain and compact the granular so the walkway does not settle in ruts. We decide the base on site.
We have a newer home in Bayview Northeast with only a garage strip. Can you add a side walkway?
Yes. We pour side and rear walkways and landings on a compacted base, and we can do it on the same trip as a driveway or a patio. Tell us the whole list at the site visit.
How much do new concrete steps or a walkway cost in Aurora?
The number of risers, the height of the whole assembly, tear-out of the old steps, whether footings are needed, the finish and access to the entrance all change it. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and it holds unless you change the job.
