Concrete Removal & Demolition in Waterdown
We break out and haul away old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs across Waterdown. In the old village around Mill Street and Dundas Street, it is careful tear-out next to older homes, with clay over limestone under the slab. In the newer surveys like the Waterdown Bay lands, the builder fill under a slab keeps settling, so if a slab has to come out we check that fill. Quotes are free and written, with the breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

Waterdown sits on the Niagara Escarpment, on clay over limestone, with Grindstone Creek cutting its ravine down toward the harbour. Clay heaves when frost gets under a slab on a shallow base. See our Waterdown page for everything else we do in town.
The removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Waterdown ground and Waterdown homes change about the job.
The old village: careful tear-out beside older homes
Around Mill Street, Dundas Street and Main, the housing is older and the work is usually repair and replacement. A driveway at the end of its life or a set of front steps that has pulled away from the house comes out first, and the new concrete goes in on a proper base at a grade that suits the home.
With the old concrete gone, we look at the base under it, where the downspouts empty and how the ground drains. If the slab sloped toward an older foundation, we tell you. We can look at basement waterproofing in Waterdown while the ground beside the wall is open, and parging if the foundation above grade needs a fresh coat.
Newer surveys: slabs on builder fill
In the newer east-side surveys, including the Waterdown Bay lands, the ground along the foundation is disturbed builder backfill that keeps settling for a season or two after closing. A slab poured soon after closing can sink or tip.
When a small builder pad or a narrow driveway has to come out for a bigger pour, we plan the machine path and the new base at the site visit. We compact the new base in lifts instead of trusting fresh ground. Doing the tear-out and the new pour with one crew means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open. See concrete driveways in Waterdown and concrete patios in Waterdown for what goes back in.
Ravine-edge lots and booking removal in Waterdown
Lots near the Grindstone Creek ravine and the escarpment edge drain toward the slope. Before a machine works there, we plan where it sits and where the runoff goes once the slab is gone, so water sheds away from your house and away from the ravine bank.
A small machine needs about a 36 inch gate. Where it cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit. Waterdown books onto our Hamilton-area routes, so removal here rides the regular weekly schedule. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Can you take out a slab on a new Waterdown lot that is still settling?
Yes. Newer surveys like the Waterdown Bay lands sit on disturbed fill, and the ground keeps moving for a year or two. We take the slab out, check the base, and compact a new one in lifts before anything is poured back.
Our Waterdown lot backs onto the Grindstone Creek ravine. Does that change a tear-out?
It can. Lots near the ravine drain toward the slope, so we plan the machine path and where the runoff goes once the concrete is gone. The breakout is normal work. The grading and the care near the bank are where the extra attention goes.
Can you take out concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?
Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so we put it in the written quote after the site visit.
How much does concrete removal cost in Waterdown?
The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
What happens to the old concrete?
Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
