Concrete Patios in Waterdown
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios, gazebo slabs and pool decks across Waterdown. In the newer surveys, like the Waterdown Bay lands, the job is often a first patio on builder backfill that is still settling, so we compact a real base before we pour. Near the Grindstone Creek ravine and the escarpment edge, the job is about where the water goes. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Waterdown sits on top of the Niagara Escarpment, on clay over limestone. The old village around Mill Street holds century homes, and newer surveys have filled in the farmland around it. Many of those newer lots close without a patio. See our Waterdown page for everything else we do in town.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method and specs are on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Waterdown ground and Waterdown homes change about that job.
New surveys: build on ground that has stopped moving
On a newer Waterdown lot, the ground along the foundation is disturbed builder backfill. It keeps settling for a season or two after closing. A patio poured on that ground can sink at the house edge and tip the wrong way, toward the wall.
So we wait for the builder's final grade, and we check the lot before we pour. We dig to stable ground and compact the granular base in lifts, rather than trust fresh fill. Clay heaves when frost gets under a slab on a shallow base, so the depth of the base matters as much as the concrete on top. Ask for the quote in spring, because the summer pour season fills up.
Ravine and escarpment lots: send the water the right way
Lots near the Grindstone Creek ravine and the escarpment edge drain toward the slope. A patio changes how a yard drains, because rain and melt run off the slab instead of soaking in. We plan where that runoff goes, so it sheds away from your house and away from the ravine bank instead of cutting at either. We also keep the slab and its load back from any unstable bank.
Before we pour against a house, we look at where the downspouts empty and how the yard grades. If a basement wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Waterdown before a patio goes in beside it.
Old village homes, gazebos and pool decks
In the old village around Mill Street and Dundas Street, the work is often repair and replacement done to suit an older home. We take out what has failed and build the new patio on a proper base, at a grade that suits the older home. If the foundation above the patio needs a fresh coat, we also do parging.
A pad that carries a gazebo is not ordinary patio space. Bring the gazebo plan to the site visit, and we plan the base, the reinforcement and the anchors for that structure. A pool deck gets a broom or exposed aggregate finish, so wet feet can grip it. Waterdown books onto our Hamilton-area routes, so a patio here rides the regular weekly schedule. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
We just closed on a new build in Waterdown. When can we pour a patio?
After the builder's final grade is in and the lot has had a season to settle. The backfill along a new foundation keeps settling for a season or two, and a patio poured too early can sink and tip toward the wall. We check the lot on the site visit, then compact a proper base before we pour.
Our yard backs onto the Grindstone Creek ravine. Can we still have a patio?
Usually, yes. The base and the pour are normal work. The extra care goes into the grading and the setback: we keep the slab back from any unstable bank, and we slope it so water sheds away from both your house and the ravine.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Waterdown?
The finish you pick and how easily the concrete truck can reach the backyard set most of the price. Size, the base your lot needs, any old slab to remove, and any steps or levels set the rest. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with no deposit to get a price, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
What does the lifetime warranty cover on a patio?
Our labour, for as long as you own the home: the site preparation, the base, the pour and the finishing, and repairs needed because that work was done wrong. Materials carry their makers' warranties. The warranty is written on every quote.
