Concrete Removal & Demolition in Port Perry
We break out and haul away old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs across Port Perry and Scugog. On the heritage blocks above Queen Street, old steps and slabs sit on foundations that have settled over a hundred winters. Near Lake Scugog the ground is soft and holds water, so the base under the old concrete matters as much as the breakout. Quotes are free and written, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

Port Perry has two kinds of ground. Down by Lake Scugog the shore is low, soft and slow to drain. Up the hill, the old streets behind Queen Street sit on original foundations from before modern footing and base standards. Both change what happens when old concrete comes out. See our Port Perry page for everything else we do in town.
The removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Port Perry ground and Port Perry homes change about that job.
Above Queen Street: old steps and slabs on old foundations
The brick homes behind the heritage Queen Street core are a century or more old. Their front steps, walks and pads were poured on shallow or settled ground, and many have sunk out of level. Taking them out is the easy part. What we find under them tells us why they moved.
With the old concrete gone, we look at the base, at where the water goes and at how the slab met the house wall. If the steps need to be re-poured, we rebuild the base to proper depth first, so the new ones stay put. If the wall beside them has blown parging or damp spring water, we can look at that while the ground is open.
Near Lake Scugog: the base is the job
Close to the water, the lakeplain runs to soft, organic ground that holds moisture. An old slab there often did not fail on its own. It failed because there was little firm ground under it. If we break out the slab and pour the new one on the same soft base, it will settle again.
So near the lake we dig past the poor material, bring in granular fill and compact it in lifts before anything new goes in. We decide how deep to go at the site visit. Doing the tear-out and the new pour with one crew means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open. See concrete driveways in Port Perry and concrete patios in Port Perry for what goes back in.
Booking removal in Port Perry and Scugog
Port Perry is a long way from our home routes in southwest Ontario, so we group Scugog work into planned trips north and give you a real date, not a same-week promise. We cover the whole township, including the rural hamlets and Scugog Island.
A small machine needs about a 36 inch gate. Where it cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Why did the steps on my older home above Queen Street sink, and will new ones do the same?
Steps poured on shallow or settled ground sink out of level over time, and the heritage homes behind Queen Street sit on foundations that have been through a hundred winters of frost and melt. When we take the old steps out, we check the base and the drainage and fix what moved them before the new pour. New steps on the same weak base would sink the same way.
Our lot is near Lake Scugog and the ground stays soft. Can you take out an old slab and pour a new one?
Yes, but the base is the whole job on lakeside ground. We dig past the poor material, bring in granular fill and compact it in lifts until there is something firm to bear on. We find out how deep to go at the site visit.
Can you take out concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?
Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so we put it in the written quote after the site visit.
How much does concrete removal cost in Port Perry?
The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. Near the lake, rebuilding the base can add to it. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
What happens to the old concrete?
Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
