Concrete Driveways in Port Perry

We pour new and replacement concrete driveways across Port Perry and the Township of Scugog. Near Lake Scugog the job turns on the base: the low lakeplain is soft and slow to drain, so we dig past the poor ground and rebuild it before we pour. Out in the rural township it is often a longer approach drive. Union-certified crews, a free written quote that holds, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Port Perry is the main town of Scugog, on the western shore of Lake Scugog in north Durham. A driveway here depends on where your lot sits: on the low ground near the lake, on the older streets that climb the hill above Queen Street, or out on a rural property in the township. See our Port Perry page for everything else we do in Scugog.

Every driveway we pour gets the same core: excavation to stable ground, a compacted Granular A base, 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for freeze-thaw and road salt, and saw-cut control joints. The full spec is on our concrete driveways page. This page covers what Port Perry ground and Port Perry homes change about the job.

Near the lake: the base is the whole job

Lake Scugog is a shallow lake, raised by a dam downstream, and the land around the shore is low and slow to drain. Close to the water the ground can be soft, organic or peaty, and it holds water. A driveway poured straight onto that settles unevenly within a few seasons, and the cracks follow.

So on a lakeside lot we dig past the poor material, bring in granular fill and compact it in lifts until there is firm ground to bear on. The site visit shows how deep the base must go.

The older streets above Queen

Behind the heritage main street on Queen, many homes are a century or older. If the driveway at one of them has cracked or sunk, a replacement starts with tear-out: we break out the old slab and haul it away before we pour.

Rural Scugog: longer approach drives

Out in the township, in Greenbank, Seagrave, Blackstock, Prince Albert, on Scugog Island and on the concession properties between them, the ask is often a longer approach drive or a bigger pad by the garage. Inland, the till ground drains and bears better than the lakeplain, but it still takes the full freeze-thaw cycle and the road salt each winter. A longer slab gets the same excavated, compacted base and control joints as a short one, and air-entrained concrete to stand up to the salt.

Booking a Port Perry driveway

Port Perry is a long way north of our usual routes, so we group Scugog driveways into planned trips and give you a real date, not a same-week promise. A new slab needs vehicles kept off for at least 48 hours, and heavy trucks off for 7 days, so plan the pour around when you need the car. We reply to every request within one business day.

Questions

Straight answers

Our lot is near Lake Scugog and the ground is soft. Can you pour a concrete driveway there?

Yes, but the base is what makes it last. We dig past the soft or organic ground, bring in granular fill and compact it in lifts until it is firm, then pour. Skip that near the lake and the slab settles and cracks within a few seasons. The site visit shows how deep the base must go.

Our old driveway above Queen Street has sunk and cracked. Can you replace it?

Yes. We tear out and haul away the old slab, then pour a new one on a compacted base.

Do you pour driveways out in the rural township, or only in town?

The whole township: Greenbank, Seagrave, Blackstock, Prince Albert, Scugog Island and the concession properties between them. Rural jobs are often longer approach drives, which we quote with a site visit and pour on the same compacted base as a driveway in town.

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Port Perry?

Size, finish, access, and base and soil all drive the cost. We do not post a flat rate that would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
