Concrete Slabs & Garage Pads in Port Perry
My Concrete Pros pours garage pads, shed pads and hot tub slabs across Port Perry and the Township of Scugog. A slab is only as good as the ground under it, and near Lake Scugog that ground is often soft. So the base is most of the job. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Port Perry sits on the western shore of Lake Scugog in north Durham. A slab here depends on the lot: low ground by the water, a yard on the hill above Queen Street, or a rural property with room for a detached garage or a workshop. See our Port Perry page for everything else we do in town.
A slab carries weight in one place: a car, a hot tub, a shed full of tools. If the ground under it moves, the slab tilts or cracks. The full method and specs are on our concrete slabs and garage pads page. This page covers what Scugog ground and Scugog lots change about that job.
Lakeside lots: dig past the soft ground
Lake Scugog is a shallow lake, raised by a dam at Lindsay in the 1830s. That flood left the land around the shore low and slow to drain. Close to the water the ground is often soft, organic and sometimes peaty, and it gives a loaded slab almost nothing firm to sit on.
A garage pad poured straight onto that ground settles unevenly within a few seasons. So on a lakeside lot we dig past the soft material, bring in granular fill and compact it in layers until the base is firm. The site visit is where we find out how deep we have to go, and that depth is a big part of the written quote.
Garage pads and shop slabs on rural lots
Out in the township, a slab is often a detached garage or a workshop. A garage slab carries vehicles, so it is poured thicker than a shed pad and reinforced with 10M rebar on a 400 mm grid, not light mesh. We use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, because road salt drips off parked cars all winter.
Inland from the shore the ground is till that drains and bears better than the lakeplain, but the whole township still freezes and heaves every winter. We dig the base to real depth there too. Bring the garage plan to the site visit, and we plan the thickened edges and anchor bolts the building needs.
Shed and hot tub pads near older homes
On the old streets above Queen Street, a shed or hot tub pad often goes in close to a century-old foundation.
If the wall beside the new pad already lets water in, we tell you. We can look at basement waterproofing before a slab goes in on top of the problem.
Planned trips up to Scugog
Port Perry is a long way from our usual routes, so we group Scugog work into planned trips and book you a real date, not a same-week promise. Small pours are most economical when they share a truck, so tell us if you also want a walkway or an apron poured the same day. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Our lot is close to Lake Scugog and the ground stays soft. Can you still pour a garage pad?
Yes, but the base is the whole job. We dig past the soft lakeside material, bring in granular fill and compact it in layers until there is firm ground to pour on. A pad poured straight onto soft ground settles and cracks within a few seasons, so we never skip that step near the lake.
What goes into a slab for a detached garage?
A garage slab is poured at 125 to 150 mm with 10M rebar on a 400 mm grid and 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, on a compacted granular base. Vehicles can go on it after 48 hours at the earliest, and framing after about 7 days.
How much does a garage pad or shed pad cost in Port Perry?
We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Do you pour slabs outside the town, on Scugog Island or in the hamlets?
Yes. We quote across the whole township, including Greenbank, Seagrave, Caesarea, Blackstock, Prince Albert and the lots on Scugog Island. Those jobs book onto the same planned trips up to Scugog.
