Concrete Walkways & Steps in Port Perry

We build and rebuild concrete walkways, front steps and entrances in Port Perry and across Scugog, from sunken steps on the old streets above Queen Street to a dry path from the road to the door on a lakeside or rural lot. Steps that meet the house sit on footings below the frost line, and every path gets a compacted granular base and a slope that sheds water. Union-certified crews, a free written quote and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Entrance work in Port Perry comes from two kinds of property. The heritage blocks behind Queen Street hold brick homes a century or older, and their front steps have often sunk out of level. The lakeside lots and rural properties out in the township want a walkway that stays out of the mud, from the road or the drive to the door. See our Port Perry page for everything else we do in Scugog.

The full method, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the granular base and the uniform risers, is on our concrete walkways and steps page. This page is about what Port Perry ground and Port Perry homes change about an entrance. The free written quote covers jobs as small as one set of steps.

Above Queen Street: sunken steps on old foundations

The homes behind Queen Street went up before modern footings and base prep, on foundations that have settled and shifted over a hundred winters. Front steps poured on shallow or settled ground sink out of level over time, and the gap that opens beside the wall lets water in.

We match the fix to the cause. For steps that have sunk, we remove them and pour new ones on a base dug to proper depth, with footings below the frost line where they attach to the house. If the wall beside them is losing its parging, see concrete repair and resurfacing in Port Perry.

Lakeside and rural lots: a base that holds

Close to Lake Scugog the ground is low, slow to drain and often soft. A walkway poured straight onto soft ground settles unevenly within a few seasons, so we dig past the poor material, bring in granular fill and compact it in lifts until there is something firm to bear on.

Inland the till drains better, but the whole township takes the full freeze-thaw cycle and road salt every winter. We read the lot before we quote: how close it sits to the lake, how water moves off it and how deep we have to go. A new walkway rides on the same trip as a patio or a driveway.

Small jobs and booking

Port Perry sits in north Durham, a long way from our usual routes, so we group Scugog work into planned trips and book you a real date, not a same-week promise. One set of steps or a single cracked walkway panel still gets a written quote and the lifetime warranty on labour. We reply to every request within one business day.

Questions

Straight answers

Why have the front steps on my older Port Perry home sunk?

Usually because they were poured on shallow or settled ground beside an old foundation. Over many winters the steps sink out of level. The fix is new steps on a base dug to proper depth, with footings below the frost line where they attach to the house.

Our lot is near Lake Scugog and the ground stays soft. Can you still pour a walkway?

Yes, but the base is the whole job. We dig past the soft or organic material, bring in granular fill and compact it in lifts before we pour. The site visit is where we find out how deep we have to go.

Do you build walkways on rural lots and Scugog Island?

Yes. We quote across the whole township, including the rural hamlets and the lots on Scugog Island, with a site visit and a written number.

How much do new concrete steps or a walkway cost in Port Perry?

The number of risers, tear-out of the old steps, whether footings are needed, the base the ground needs, the finish and access to the entrance all change it. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and it holds unless you change the job.
