Concrete Patios in Port Perry
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios across Port Perry and the Township of Scugog. Near Lake Scugog the ground is low and often soft, so the base is most of the job. Behind the heritage blocks above Queen Street, the patio has to send water away from an old foundation. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Port Perry is the main town of Scugog, on the western shore of Lake Scugog in north Durham. A patio here depends on where your yard sits: down on the low ground by the lake, on the old streets that climb the hill above Queen Street, or out on a rural lot in the township. See our Port Perry page for everything else we do in town.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method and specs are on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Scugog ground and Scugog homes change about that job.
Lakeside lots: dig to firm ground first
Lake Scugog is a shallow lake, raised by a dam at Lindsay in the 1830s. That flood left the land around the shore low and slow to drain. Close to the water the ground is often soft, organic and sometimes peaty. It holds water and gives a slab almost nothing firm to sit on.
A patio poured straight onto that ground settles unevenly within a few seasons. So on a lakeside lot we dig past the soft material, bring in granular fill and compact it in layers until the base is firm. The site visit is where we find out how deep we have to go, and that depth is a big part of the written quote.
Older homes above Queen Street: keep the water off the wall
The brick homes behind heritage Queen Street are a century old or more. They went up on original foundations, before modern footing or sealing standards. A patio that is flat, or that settles toward the house, sends rain and spring melt to that old wall. Near the lake the water table is already high, so that water finds the weak point fast.
Before we pour beside an older home, we look at where the downspouts empty, how the yard drains, and whether old steps or slabs have sunk. We set the slope away from the house. If the wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing before the patio goes in on top of the problem.
Rural lots and the trip up
We quote out in Greenbank, Seagrave, Blackstock, Prince Albert and on Scugog Island too, and those lots book onto the same trip up. Inland from the shore the ground is till that drains and bears better than the lakeplain, but it still freezes and heaves, so we dig the base to real depth there too.
Port Perry is a long way from our usual routes, so we group Scugog work into planned trips and book you a real date, not a same-week promise. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Our backyard is close to Lake Scugog and the ground stays soft. Can we still have a concrete patio?
Yes, but the base is the whole job. We dig past the soft lakeside material, bring in granular fill and compact it in layers until there is firm ground to pour on. A patio poured straight onto soft ground settles and cracks within a few seasons, so we never skip that step near the lake.
Will a new patio make the basement of our older Port Perry home wetter?
Not if the patio is built right. We slope every patio about 2 percent away from the house and check where your downspouts empty. Older foundations above Queen Street were never sealed to a modern standard, so if your wall already lets water in, we tell you before we pour.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Port Perry?
Size, the finish you pick, how easily the truck can reach the backyard and how deep the base has to go set the price. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Do you pour patios outside the town, on Scugog Island or in the hamlets?
Yes. We quote across the whole township, including Greenbank, Seagrave, Caesarea, Blackstock, Prince Albert and the lots on Scugog Island. Those jobs book onto the same planned trips up to Scugog.
