Concrete Patios in Pickering
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios, gazebo slabs and pool decks across Pickering. In Seaton and the newer surveys the job is usually a first patio on a bare yard, so we check that the ground has settled before we pour. In the older lakeshore neighbourhoods, on clay with the water table close below, the job is mostly about sending water away from an older foundation. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

A Pickering patio depends on where your yard sits. The south end along the lake, Bay Ridges, West Shore, Rosebank, Dunbarton and Liverpool, is older housing on the old Lake Iroquois shoreline plain, where the soil runs to clay and the water table sits high. North of there, Seaton is new streets on glacial till, with many houses that arrive without a finished yard. See our Pickering page for everything else we do in the city.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method and specs are on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Pickering ground and Pickering homes change about that job.
Seaton and the new surveys: let the ground settle first
A new Seaton lot looks finished, but the ground around the house keeps settling after the builder backfills. A patio poured on that ground too early can sink at the house edge and tip the wrong way, toward the wall.
So for a new lot, we usually tell you to wait through the first spring and watch how water moves across the yard. Then we check the compaction before we pour. Seaton's glacial till heaves when frost gets under a thin slab, so we dig the base to real depth and compact it.
Lakeshore Pickering: keep the water off the wall
In the lakeshore neighbourhoods, the clay holds melt and rain against a foundation wall, and many of the older homes were built before walls were sealed to today's standard. A patio that is flat, or that has settled toward the house, sends every rain and every spring melt to that wall.
Before we pour against an older home, we look at where the downspouts empty, how the yard drains, and whether an old slab or the steps have sunk. We set the slope away from the house. If the wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Pickering before the patio goes in on top of the problem.
Gazebos, pool decks and booking
A backyard pad that carries a gazebo is not ordinary patio space. Bring the gazebo plan to the site visit, and we plan the base, the reinforcement, the edge thickness and the anchors for that structure. We quote the patio and the pad as one job.
Pickering sits at the far west edge of Durham, a long drive from our home routes. We book Pickering patios into planned trips to the area and give you firm dates, not a same-week promise. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
We just moved into a new build in Seaton. When can we pour a patio?
Usually after the first spring. The ground around a new house keeps settling after the builder backfills, and a patio poured too early can sink and tip toward the wall. We check the compaction on the site visit and tell you if the lot is ready.
Will a new patio make my Bay Ridges basement wetter?
A patio cannot fix a wall, but it should not send more water to it. The lakeshore end of Pickering sits on clay with a high water table, so any slab that slopes toward the house sends water to the wall. We slope every patio about 2 percent away from the house and check where your downspouts empty. If your wall already lets water in, we tell you before we pour.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Pickering?
The size, the finish, the base the ground needs, and how easily the crew and the concrete can reach the backyard set the price. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Can you pour a pad for a gazebo in Pickering?
Yes. Bring the gazebo plan to the visit. We plan the base, reinforcement, edge thickness and anchors for that structure before the pour, and quote the patio and the pad together.
