Concrete Patios in King Township
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios across King Township, from rural patios off estate and country homes to backyard pours on village lots in King City, Nobleton and Schomberg. Most of King sits on the sand and gravel of the Oak Ridges Moraine, which drains fast but can wash out or settle under a slab, so we contain and compact the base before we pour. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

A patio in King Township starts with the ground, and King ground is not like the rest of York Region. Most of the township sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine, a long ridge of glacial sand and gravel. Water soaks straight down through it instead of sitting in clay. That makes frost heave less of a worry, but loose sand under a slab can settle or wash out if the base is not built right.
Our full patio method is on the concrete patios page: 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for freeze-thaw winters, a compacted granular base, and a slope of about 2 percent away from the house. This page covers what King's sand, its big rural lots and its older farmhouses change about that job.
Moraine sand: contain the base, then compact it
On clay, the usual patio problem is water held under the slab that freezes and lifts it. On King's moraine sand, the problem is the other way round. The sand drains well, but it moves. If the edges are not held and the base is not packed, the sand under the outer edge of the patio can settle or wash away, and the slab cracks or tips.
So on a King patio we dig out the soft topsoil, build up a compacted granular base, and hold the edges so the sand stays put. Then we set the surface slope so rain sheds off the patio, not into the sand along its edge. Out toward the Holland Marsh the ground is soft, wet organic soil, not sand, and it needs its own approach. We check which ground you have on the site visit, before we quote.
Rural patios on estate and farm lots
Many King homes sit well back from the road on large acreages, and a patio off a country home is often bigger and further from the driveway than a suburban one. Access for the concrete truck is part of the plan. We walk the route from the road to the patio on the site visit and plan how the concrete gets there before we give you a number.
A walkway to the door poured the same day as the patio shares the truck and the base crew. If the patio is going decorative, see stamped and decorative concrete for the patterns and finishes.
Older farmhouses: keep the water off the wall
Many King farmhouses and century homes have foundations built before walls were sealed to today's standard. A patio poured against one of those walls must slope away from it, or it sends every rain and every spring melt straight to the foundation. We check where the downspouts empty and whether the ground already runs toward the house.
If the basement already lets water in, we tell you before we pour, and we can look at basement waterproofing in King first, so the patio does not go in on top of the problem.
King is a planned trip, so book ahead
King sits well north of our home routes, so we book township jobs into planned trips with dates set in advance, not a same-week promise. Ask for the quote in spring if you want the patio ready for summer. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
My King lot is all sand. Is that good or bad for a patio?
Both. Moraine sand drains fast, so water is less likely to freeze under the slab and lift it. But loose sand can settle or wash out under the edges. We contain the edges, compact a granular base, and slope the surface so rain runs off the patio, not into the sand beside it.
We live near the Holland Marsh. Is the job different?
Yes. The ground out by the Holland Marsh is soft, wet organic soil, not moraine sand. We look at the ground on your lot on the site visit and plan the base for it before we quote.
Our house is far back from the road. Can the concrete truck reach the backyard?
We plan that on the site visit. We walk the route from the road to the patio and work out how the concrete gets there. Access is one of the things that sets the price, so it is in the written quote, not a surprise on the day.
How much does a concrete patio cost in King?
Size, the finish you pick, the base the ground needs, and how easily the concrete reaches the patio set most of the price. Multiple levels add to it. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
