Concrete Slabs & Garage Pads in King Township
My Concrete Pros pours garage pads, shed pads, hot tub pads, detached garage floors and barn and equipment pads across King Township, on estate and farm lots and in King City, Nobleton and Schomberg. Most of King sits on the sand and gravel of the Oak Ridges Moraine, which drains fast but can settle or wash out under a slab, so we contain and compact the base before we pour. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

A slab in King Township is rarely a small suburban pad. It is often a floor for a detached garage set well back on an acreage, a pad for a workshop or a hot tub, or a barn or equipment slab on a horse farm. The ground under most of the township is the sand and gravel of the Oak Ridges Moraine, not the clay found elsewhere in York Region. Water drains straight down through it, so frost heave is less of a worry. The loose sand is the worry, because it can settle or wash out under a slab if the base is not built right.
The full method is on our concrete slabs and garage pads page: a compacted Granular A base, reinforcement matched to the load, and 32 MPa air-entrained concrete. This page covers what King's sand, its big rural lots and its older farmhouses change about the job.
Moraine sand: contain the base, then compact it
On clay, the usual slab problem is water held under the pad that freezes and lifts it. On King's moraine sand, the problem is the other way round. The sand drains well, but it moves. If the edges are not held and the base is not packed, the sand under the edge of a pad can settle or wash away, and the slab cracks or tips.
So on a King pad we dig out the soft topsoil, build up a compacted granular base and hold the edges so the sand stays put. Then we set the slope so rain sheds off the slab, not into the sand beside it. Out toward the Holland Marsh the ground is soft, wet organic soil, not sand, and it needs its own approach. We check which ground you have on the site visit, before we quote.
Barn, equipment and workshop pads on estate and farm lots
King has the highest concentration of estate properties in the GTA, plus working horse farms. Barn floors, wash bays, equipment and feed pads carry heavy point loads and take a lot of wear, so they get a thicker slab and more steel than a shed pad. Tell us what goes on the pad and we size the mix and the reinforcement to suit.
Many of these lots have a long approach from the road, so access for the concrete truck is part of the plan. We walk the route on the site visit and plan how the concrete gets there before we give you a number.
Garage floors, village lots and older farmhouses
A detached garage floor wants anchor bolts set in the wet concrete and a gentle slope toward the door so snowmelt off the car drains out. The written quote names the reinforcement, the edges and the anchors, so you can compare it with any other quote. Keep vehicles off a new garage floor for at least 48 hours.
A pad beside an older farmhouse must send water away from the wall, not toward it. If the basement already lets water in, we tell you before we pour, and we can look at basement waterproofing in King first.
King is a planned trip, so book ahead
King sits well north of our home routes, so we book township jobs into planned trips with dates set in advance, not a same-week promise. Ask for the quote in spring if you want the pad ready for summer. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
My King lot is all sand. Is that good or bad for a garage pad?
Both. Moraine sand drains fast, so water is less likely to freeze under the slab and lift it. But loose sand can settle or wash out under the edges. We contain the edges, compact a granular base, and slope the pad so rain runs off, not into the sand beside it.
We have a horse farm near Schomberg. Do you pour barn and equipment pads?
Yes. Barn floors, wash bays, and equipment and feed pads are flatwork like any other, but they carry heavy loads, so they get a thicker slab and more steel than a house pad. We compact the sand base the same careful way and set drainage so the floor stays usable.
Rebar or mesh for a pad in King?
Rebar for anything that carries a vehicle: a 10M grid at 400 mm. Mesh is right for light pads like sheds and hot tubs. The written quote names the reinforcement.
How much does a concrete pad cost in King?
Size sets the start, then the load the pad carries, its thickness and reinforcement, the base your ground needs, and how easily the concrete can reach the spot. On a King property the length of the approach and the state of the sand base matter a lot. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
