Concrete Slabs & Garage Pads in Georgetown
We pour shed pads, hot tub pads and detached garage slabs across Georgetown, from the Georgetown South surveys to the older streets around Main and Church. The ground here is Halton Till, a stiff clay-loam over Queenston shale that comes close to the surface in places, so every pad gets excavation to firm material and a compacted granular base before any concrete goes in. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

A pad lives or dies below the surface. In Georgetown the clay under most lots heaves when frost works under a thin base and holds meltwater long after the snow is gone, which lifts or tilts a slab that was poured too lightly. South of town the shale bedrock sits close to the surface in spots. Both change how we prepare the ground.
The full build, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the compacted Granular A base, mesh or rebar by load, is on our concrete slabs and garage pads page. This page covers what Georgetown's ground and homes change. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number you pay.
Halton Till clay, shale and a floating pad
A detached garage pad in Southern Ontario is usually a floating slab, with no deep foundation, so the whole pad rides any frost movement as one piece. On Georgetown's clay that makes the base the most important part. We dig to firm material, compact the granular base in lifts, and thicken the edges where the walls will sit.
Because the shale comes up close to the surface on some streets and sits under metres of clay on the next, we read each lot before we quote. Shallow rock can change how deep we excavate for a base, and we put anything the ground changes in the written quote.
Georgetown South: the pad the builder left out
Georgetown South has been laying down survey after survey of newer homes since 1989, and the pours a builder skips, such as a pad for the shed or hot tub once the lot has settled, are left for the owner to add.
Foundation backfill on a new lot keeps settling for a season or two, so we compact the base mechanically rather than trust fresh fill. On a brand-new lot we will often tell you to give the ground a season before the pad goes down. A hot tub pad has to be dead level and reinforced for the load, and we pour it a little larger than the tub's footprint so the steps and service panels land on concrete.
The older streets above the Credit River
Around Main and Church, King and Queen, Delrex and Moore Park, a lot of the flatwork is on its second or third surface. If an old cracked pad is in the way of a new one, we take it out and look for what failed under it first; see our concrete removal and demolition page. Grading matters here: the pad should shed water away from the slab and away from the foundation, not toward it.
Garage floors, sheds and anchors
A shed or hot tub pad takes welded wire mesh. A garage or shop floor carries a vehicle, so it gets a 10M rebar grid at a 400 mm spacing and a slab 125 to 150 mm thick. A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will say so at the visit rather than sell concrete you do not need.
Anchor bolts set in the wet concrete hold a garage's bottom plate best, and the floor should slope toward the door so melt off the car finds its way out. Georgetown is reached from the Hamilton and Waterdown side of our Halton routes, so a job books into the regular run once the pouring season is on.
Straight answers
Does Georgetown's clay change how you build a garage pad?
It makes the base matter more. Halton Till is a stiff clay-loam that heaves with frost and holds meltwater, and a thin base lets a floating slab lift or tilt. We dig to firm material, compact a granular base in lifts, and thicken the edges where the walls will sit.
Can I pour a pad right after the builder hands over my Georgetown South lot?
Often it is better to wait. Foundation backfill keeps settling for a season or two, and a pad poured onto soil that is still moving can crack whatever the mix. We compact the base mechanically instead of trusting fresh fill, and on a brand-new lot we will tell you plainly if the ground should sit a season first.
Will you hit rock when you dig for a pad in Georgetown?
Sometimes. South of Georgetown the glacial cover thins and the shale bedrock comes close to the surface in places. It can change how deep we dig, so we read the lot at the free site visit and put anything it changes in the written quote.
Do I need concrete for a shed in Georgetown, or will gravel do?
A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will tell you so. Concrete is the right answer once the shed is a workshop, stores anything heavy, or needs anchoring against wind.
How much does a concrete garage pad cost in Georgetown?
Size, thickness, the reinforcement the load needs, access to the site and the base the ground needs all move the number. A garage floor costs more than a shed pad because it is thicker and carries more steel, and clay fill or shallow shale can add base work. We give you a written quote after a free site visit, and the number we give you is the number you pay.
