Ajax splits along the old Lake Iroquois shoreline. Near Lake Ontario, in South Ajax and Pickering Village, the ground is a clay plain with a shallow water table. North of the 401, toward Taunton, Salem and Audley, the homes are newer and the ground is a clayey silt till that bears weight well but still moves with frost. So we dig down to firm ground and compact a granular base before we pour. Garage floors get 125 to 150 mm of concrete on a 10M rebar grid at 400 mm, with the edges thickened to about 300 mm. South Ajax: clay and a shallow water table
Near the lake the land flattens into a clay plain that slopes to the water. Clay holds water and heaves when frost reaches under a thin slab, so a pad here needs a base dug to real depth and compacted.

North of the 401: new lots and settling ground
On the newer surveys around Taunton, Salem and Audley, ground around a new house keeps settling for a year or two, so we check compaction before we pour anything that has to stay flat and crack-free. Spring is the right time to get the quote in, because summer slots in north Ajax fill up fast.

Garage floors, workshops and booking
A detached garage floor wants anchor bolts set in the wet concrete and a gentle slope toward the door so snowmelt off the car drains out. The written quote names the reinforcement, the edges and the anchors, so you can compare it with any other quote.

Rebar or mesh for a garage pad in Ajax?
Rebar for anything that carries a vehicle: a 10M grid at 400 mm, with thickened edges on a floating garage slab. Welded wire mesh is right for light pads like sheds and hot tubs. The written quote names the reinforcement.
How much does a concrete pad cost in Ajax?
