We break out and haul away old driveways, laneway aprons, village steps and walks, and cracked yard concrete around barns and farm buildings across Norwich Township, including Norwich village, Otterville, Burgessville and Springford. What the ground is doing under the old slab changes the job: clay that held water and heaved in the north half, sand that washed out in the south. Norwich Township splits at the soil line, and the reason an old slab failed depends on which side of the line it sits. The north half is clay and clay-loam, which holds water and heaves under frost. The south half around Otterville runs to sand, which drains quickly but washes out from under slab edges where runoff concentrates. Once the concrete is out, that is what we are left looking at.

The removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Norwich ground and Norwich properties change about that job.

Clay or sand: what we check once the slab is out

On the clay side, water held under a slab is one thing that can crack or heave it. When the old concrete is out, we look at the base and how the lot drains, and what we find at the site visit decides what the replacement needs.

On the sand side, runoff along one edge can carry the base away and leave a slab bridging a hollow. We check where support was lost and plan where downspouts and runoff go before anything new is poured. If no concrete is going back, we grade the space so water leaves it instead of running toward the house.

Farm yards, laneways and village steps

Township properties carry old concrete in places a town lot never has: broken yard slabs around barns, worn aprons at the end of a long gravel laneway, and pads that no longer suit the equipment parked on them. We break out what is in the way, haul it off and either grade the spot clean or prep it for a fresh pour. The quote separates those line items so you choose how far to take it.

In Norwich village and Otterville, the work is smaller: crumbling front steps, short walks and porch slabs on older homes. Small tear-outs are welcome and ride the same scheduled south Oxford route as larger jobs. If new concrete follows, see concrete driveways in Norwich and concrete patios in Norwich.

Booking removal in Norwich Township

Norwich Township is on our south Oxford route with Tillsonburg, so even a small tear-out books into a scheduled visit through the season. We reply to every request within one business day.

A small machine needs about a 36 inch gate. Where it cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit.

Questions

Straight answers

Can you take out old cracked concrete around our barn or farmyard?

Yes. We break out the concrete, haul it away, and either grade the spot clean or prep it for a fresh pour. The quote separates those line items so you choose how far to take it.

Our old driveway north of Norwich village has heaved. Does it have to come out?

Water held under the slab is one thing that can heave it on clay. We look at the slab and how the lot drains at the site visit and tell you whether it can be repaired or has to come out. If it comes out, we check the base and how the water leaves before any new pour.

Can you remove concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?

Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so it goes in the written quote after the site visit.

How much does concrete removal cost in Norwich?

The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

What happens to the old concrete?

Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
