Concrete Driveways in Norwich
We pour new and replacement concrete driveways across Norwich Township, in Norwich village, Otterville, Burgessville, Springford and on the farms between them. The ground decides the prep here: clay that heaves in the north half of the township, sand that washes out in the south. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Norwich Township splits at the soil line, and a driveway here is built for the side of that line it sits on. The north half is clay and clay-loam, which holds water and heaves under frost. The south half around Otterville runs to sand, which drains fast but washes out from under a slab edge where runoff runs along it.
Rural lots add their own load. Open fields let frost go deeper than on a sheltered town lot, and a farm laneway carries truck and tractor weight that a town driveway never meets. The full spec for every driveway we pour is on our concrete driveways page; this page is about what a Norwich driveway needs in particular.
Clay north of the village, sand toward Otterville
On the clay side, the fix for frost heave is depth and drainage, not thicker concrete. We dig to stable ground, build a granular base in compacted lifts, and grade the slab so melt runs off it and away from the house.
On the sand side, the risk flips. Sand rarely heaves, but water that runs along one edge carries the base away grain by grain until the slab bridges a hollow and cracks. So on a sandy lot near Otterville, the work goes into containing the base and planning where downspouts and runoff go before we set a form.
Laneways, garage aprons and farm loads
Many township properties have a long gravel laneway that wants a concrete apron at the garage end, not a full concrete lane. That is regular work for our crews. We match the apron to the grade of the lane and place the joints so the slab looks planned, not patched.
New builds and older homes in the villages
Infill builds at the edge of Norwich village need a first driveway, poured on a fresh base. For a replacement, we break out the old slab, haul it away, fix whatever lifted or cracked it, and pour fresh on air-entrained 32 MPa concrete.
Norwich Township is on our south Oxford route with Tillsonburg, so a driveway here books into scheduled visits through the pouring season. Keep vehicles off a new slab for 48 hours at least, longer in cold weather.
Straight answers
We are on a farm north of Norwich village. Will the clay heave a new driveway?
It will if the base is thin. Clay holds water under a slab, the water freezes, and the slab lifts. We dig deeper, compact a granular base in lifts, and grade the driveway to drain, so there is little water under it to freeze. That prep, not extra concrete, is what keeps a clay-country driveway flat.
Our lot near Otterville is sandy. Is that better for a concrete driveway?
Better for frost, worse for washout. Sand drains well, so heave is less of a problem, but runoff along an edge can carry the base out from under the slab. On sand we contain the base and control where downspouts and surface water go.
Can you pour just a concrete apron at the end of our gravel laneway?
Yes. A garage apron at the end of a long rural lane is a common job in the township. We match the height and grade to the lane and the garage floor, and the apron gets the same compacted base and written quote as a full driveway.
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Norwich?
Size sets the start, then the base the ground needs, the thickness for the loads, the finish, access, and whether an old slab has to come out. We do not post a flat rate. A free written quote comes after a site visit, with no deposit to get a price.
