Concrete Patios in Norwich
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios, gazebo slabs and pool decks across Norwich Township, from Norwich village to Otterville, Burgessville and the farms between them. The township splits at the soil line: clay to the north, sand to the south around Otterville. That line decides how we build the base. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Norwich Township is farm country with a few villages in it. Many of the homes are older farmhouses and village houses, and some are new infill builds at the edge of Norwich village. See our Norwich page for everything else we do in the township.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method and specs are on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Norwich ground and Norwich homes change about that job.
North of the village: clay that heaves and holds water
The north half of the township is clay and clay-loam. This ground heaves under frost, drains slowly and pushes water against foundation walls. A patio on clay needs a base dug to real depth and compacted well, or the slab moves with the frost and can settle toward the house.
On an open rural lot, frost goes deeper than on a sheltered town lot. So on a farmhouse patio we size the base for that exposure, and we set the slope so rain and spring melt run away from the wall, not into it.
South around Otterville: sand that drains but washes out
The south half, around Otterville, is the sandy ground that once grew tobacco. Sand drains fast, so frost heave is less of a problem than on the clay. But sand erodes. Where runoff collects at the edge of a slab, it can wash the base out from under it.
On sand, we put the work into the edges. We look at where the downspouts empty and where the yard sends water, and we plan the slope and the edge so water does not cut under the patio.
Farmhouses, village homes and no storm sewer
Out on the concessions, water leaves by ditch and tile, not by storm sewer. Before we pour beside an older farmhouse or a village home in Otterville, we check where the water from the patio will go, and whether the wall already lets water in. If it does, we tell you, and parging or foundation repair may come first.
Our crews fold Norwich Township into the south Oxford route with Tillsonburg, so a backyard patio in the village or out on a farm gets a planned visit and real dates. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Our house is north of Norwich village, on clay. What does that change for a patio?
The base. Clay heaves under frost and drains slowly, so we dig the base deeper, compact it well and slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house. On an open rural lot, frost goes deeper than in town, and we plan for that too.
We are near Otterville, on sand. Is a patio easier there?
In some ways. Sand drains well, so frost heave troubles it less than the clay to the north. But sand washes out where water runs at an edge. On sand we put the effort into the edges and into where the runoff goes.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Norwich?
The finish you pick and how easily the concrete truck can reach the backyard set most of the price. Size, the base the ground needs and any steps or levels set the rest. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Is a farm property near Norwich too far out for a patio?
No. Norwich Township is on our scheduled south Oxford route with Tillsonburg, so a patio on a farm books like any job in the village.
