Hagersville is a working town on Highway 6, with brick along the main street, post-war bungalows on the side streets and infill where lots have opened up. Most of the concrete in town went in decades ago, so much of what we are asked to do here starts with taking the old slab out.

The removal itself follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Hagersville ground and Hagersville lots change about that job.

Flat clay: what we look at once the slab is out

The land around Hagersville is the clay plain at its flattest. Snowmelt and spring rain have nowhere to fall away to, so water sits in yards and under slabs. Soaked clay plus frost means movement, and movement is what cracks and lifts a slab.

So the old slab coming out is the moment we learn why it failed. We look at the base, at where melt water goes and at how the lot is graded, and we fix that before new concrete goes down. Pouring over the same wet, thin base only repeats the failure.

Older blocks: driveways at end of life, steps and walks

Around the main street and the older side streets, the common jobs are tired driveways, step edges gone soft and walks that have broken up. Small tear-outs are welcome. One set of steps or a short walk gets the same written quote as a full driveway.

If the old concrete is coming out ahead of a new pour, we quote both together. You pay one mobilization instead of two, and the base is rebuilt while the ground is open. See concrete driveways in Hagersville for what goes back in.

Machine access and rural lots

Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. Where a machine cannot get through, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit, so the lawn, the fence and the neighbour's side are planned for, not found out on the day.

Rural properties just outside town sometimes have an old shop floor or equipment pad to clear. We can look at it at the same visit. Hagersville sits mid-route between the Caledonia and Jarvis ends of our Haldimand days, so quotes and tear-outs here ride the regular county schedule. We reply to every request within one business day.

Questions

Straight answers

Why does the ground in Hagersville matter for concrete removal?

The removal is the same: locates, saw cuts, breakout, haul-away. The difference is what we find under the slab. Hagersville sits on flat clay that holds spring water, so we check the base and the grading after the breakout, before the new pour.

Can you remove a small job, like one set of steps or a short walkway, in Hagersville?

Yes. Steps, a section of walkway and old pads ride along on Hagersville route days with the bigger jobs. Small work still gets a written quote.

How much does concrete removal cost in Hagersville?

The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.

What happens to the old concrete?

Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
