Concrete Patios in Hagersville

We pour concrete patios, gazebo slabs and pool decks in Hagersville. The ground here is flat clay that holds snowmelt and spring rain, so a patio in town is first a drainage job: a compacted base and a slope that sends water away from the house. Quotes are free and written, the crews are union certified, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Hagersville is a working town on Highway 6. Most homes are modest and built to last: brick along the main street, post-war bungalows on the side streets, and infill where lots have opened up.

A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for freeze-thaw winters, and set it on a compacted granular base. The full method is on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Hagersville ground and Hagersville homes change about the job.

Flat clay: the water has nowhere to go

The land around Hagersville is the clay plain at its flattest. Snowmelt and spring rain have nowhere to fall away to, so the water sits in yards and against foundations. A patio poured flat on that ground, or one that settles toward the house, holds the water right where you do not want it.

So we dig to stable ground, compact the base, and grade it before any concrete shows up. The slope moves water off the slab and away from the wall. That work is under the patio, and nobody sees it on pour day, but it decides whether the slab stays level when frost gets into wet clay.

Older homes: check the wall before the patio goes in

Much of the concrete in Hagersville went in decades ago, and parging and step edges wear out over time.

On the site visit, we look at where the downspouts empty, how the yard drains, and the state of the wall and steps beside the patio. If the old slab has to come out, tear-out and disposal go in the written quote. If the wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Hagersville before the patio goes in on top of it.

Gazebo slabs, hot tub pads and rural yards

A pad that carries a gazebo is not ordinary patio space. Bring the plan to the site visit, and we plan the base, the reinforcement, the edge thickness and the anchors for that gazebo. We quote the patio and the pad as one job.

Properties just outside town often want a shop floor or an equipment pad too, and we can quote both at the same visit. Hagersville sits mid-route between the Caledonia and Jarvis ends of our Haldimand days, so quotes and pours here ride the regular county schedule all season.

Questions

Straight answers

Will a new patio make my basement wetter?

Not if it is built right. Hagersville clay is flat and drains slowly, so any slab that slopes toward the house sends water to the wall. We slope every patio about 2 percent away from the house and check where your downspouts empty. If your wall already leaks, we tell you before we pour.

Can you replace an old cracked patio, or only pour new ones?

Both. We break out and haul away the old slab, fix the base problem that made it fail, and pour the new patio on a compacted base. Tear-out and disposal are in the written quote.

How much does a concrete patio cost in Hagersville?

Size, the finish you pick, the base the clay needs, how easily the concrete truck can reach the backyard, and whether an old slab has to come out all set the price. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.

Will you come out for a small patio or a hot tub pad?

Yes. A small patio, a hot tub pad or a set of steps books onto Hagersville route days with the bigger pours, with the same written quote and the same warranty on the labour.
