Old Whitby: tear-out and a compacted base
The old core sits on the Lake Iroquois shoreline plain with a high water table. A replacement here starts with tear-out: we break out the old slab, haul it away, and pour on an excavated, compacted Granular A base.
Brooklin and the newer surveys: new lots and wider driveways
Brooklin sits on clay-loam till, so base depth and compaction matter. A new lot keeps settling for a season or two, and we check compaction on the day we quote and tell you if the ground needs another season.
Widening has a rule in Whitby. The Town says a widened driveway must follow its Zoning By-law and its Road Occupancy and Municipal Access By-law. The Town also owns the boulevard at the end of your driveway. If the widening reaches the boulevard, you apply to the Town for a curb-cut permit, with a sketch of the curb cut and its proposed dimensions. We measure on the site visit and plan the width around that permit, so the new slab and the curb opening line up.

Our old Whitby driveway has cracked. Can you replace it?
Yes. We tear out and haul away the old slab, then pour on an excavated, compacted Granular A base. Tear-out and disposal are part of the driveway job and the written quote, not a surprise at the end.
We bought new in Brooklin. When can we pour a concrete driveway?
Usually after the ground has had time to settle, often after the first spring. A new lot keeps settling for a season or two as the fill compacts, and a driveway poured too early can sink. We check compaction on the site visit and tell you if the lot is ready.
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Whitby?
