Concrete Driveways in Newmarket
We pour new and replacement concrete driveways across Newmarket, from the heritage blocks around Main Street to the newer surveys. The ground decides the base: fast-draining moraine sand on the south edge of town, heavy clay till in the north and west. Union-certified crews do the work, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the site visit and written quote are free.

Newmarket sits on two kinds of ground, and a driveway fails on each in a different way. The southern edge of town is on the Oak Ridges Moraine, which is sand and gravel that drains fast. The north and west sit on heavy clay till, the stony, silty soil that geologists named the Newmarket Till after this town.
On the sand, the risk is a base that washes out or shifts. On the clay, the risk is frost heave. So a Newmarket driveway is decided in how the base is built, not on pour day. The full spec is on our concrete driveways page; this page is about what a Newmarket driveway needs in particular.
Sand in the south, clay in the north
On the moraine sand, frost heave is the smaller worry. The bigger one is a base that moves: loose granular that is not compacted shifts, and water cutting toward the slab can wash it out. We excavate to stable ground and compact the base in lifts.
On the clay till, frost reaches under a shallow base and lifts the slab, and the clay holds meltwater for weeks. There we dig deeper, build a thicker compacted base and grade the slab so water runs away from it and from the house. On both soils we pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, the mix for slabs that live with freeze-thaw and road salt, and saw-cut the control joints.
We decide the base on site, after we see your ground. Two lots across town from each other can need very different prep.
Low ground toward the Holland River
Toward the Holland River the land drops to old lowland, and the water table climbs after the spring melt. A driveway on one of those lots must shed water well. We set the grade so the slab drains away from the house and does not send water toward a foundation that already stays damp in spring.
Heritage blocks and newer surveys
Around historic Main Street and Fairy Lake, the homes are the oldest in town. Replacing an old driveway starts with tear-out: we break out the old slab, haul it away and pour fresh.
In the newer surveys, such as Stonehaven-Wyndham, Glenway Estates, Summerhill and Woodland Hill, owners often ask us to widen the drive or pour the slab the builder skipped. Fresh fill keeps settling for a season or two, so we check the base before anything goes down. Where trucks or trailers park, we pour 125 mm instead of 100 mm.
Newmarket is a long drive north, reached by the 400 and 404, so we group Newmarket jobs into planned trips and give you a real date. A new slab needs vehicles kept off for 48 hours at least, so plan the pour around when you need the car.
Straight answers
Does my Newmarket driveway need a different base on sand than on clay?
Yes. On the moraine sand in the south of town, the base must be compacted so it does not shift or wash out. On the clay till in the north and west, it must be deeper so frost does not lift the slab. We decide the details on site after we see your ground.
We live on low ground near the Holland River. What changes for our driveway?
The water table there climbs after the spring melt. We grade the new slab so water drains away from it and from the house, not toward the foundation.
We are in a newer survey. When should we widen or add to the driveway?
Give the lot a full spring first, so the ground has been through a freeze and thaw. Fresh fill keeps settling for a season or two, and a slab on ground that is still moving will crack. We check the base before we pour.
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Newmarket?
Size, finish, access, tear-out of an old slab and the base your ground needs set the number. A flat figure online would only mislead you. We give you a written number after a free visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
