Concrete Slabs & Garage Pads in Newmarket
We pour shed pads, hot tub pads and detached garage slabs across Newmarket, from the newer surveys to the older streets around Main Street. The ground decides the base: fast-draining moraine sand on the south edge of town, heavy clay till in the north and west. Union-certified crews do the work, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the site visit and written quote are free.

A pad lives or dies below the surface. Newmarket sits on two kinds of ground, and a pad fails on each in a different way. The southern edge of town is on the Oak Ridges Moraine, sand and gravel that drains fast. The north and west sit on heavy clay till, the stony, silty soil named the Newmarket Till after this town.
On the sand, the risk is a base that washes out or shifts. On the clay, the risk is frost heave. The full build, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the compacted Granular A base, mesh or rebar by load, is on our concrete slabs and garage pads page. This page covers what Newmarket's ground and homes change.
Sand in the south, clay in the north
A detached garage pad in Southern Ontario is usually a floating slab, with no deep foundation, so the whole pad rides any ground movement as one piece. That makes the base the most important part. We dig to stable ground, compact the granular base in lifts, and thicken the edges where the walls will sit.
On the moraine sand, the base drains fast, so we compact it well. On the clay till, frost reaches under a shallow base and lifts the pad, and the clay holds meltwater for weeks. There we dig deeper, build a thicker compacted base and slope the surface so water runs away. We read your ground at the free site visit and put anything it changes in the written quote.
Low ground toward the Holland River
Toward the Holland River the land drops to old lowland, and the water table climbs after the spring melt. A pad on one of those lots needs a base that drains and a surface sloped so water leaves it, not toward a house or shed wall.
Newer surveys: hot tub and shed pads
In newer surveys such as Stonehaven-Wyndham, Glenway Estates, Summerhill and Woodland Hill, a hot tub pad has to be dead level and reinforced for the load, because a filled tub with people in it is heavy. We pour it a little larger than the tub's footprint so steps and service panels land on concrete.
Fresh fill keeps settling for a season or two, so we check the base before anything goes down, and we suggest giving a new lot a full spring first. Our Newmarket page covers the rest of the flatwork we do in town.
Garage floors, sheds and permits
A shed pad takes welded wire mesh. A garage or shop floor carries a vehicle, so it gets a 10M rebar grid at a 400 mm spacing and a slab 125 to 150 mm thick. A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will say so at the visit rather than sell concrete you do not need.
Newmarket is a long drive north, reached by the 400 and 404, so we group jobs into planned trips and give you a real date. A new slab needs vehicles kept off for 48 hours at least, so plan the pour around when you need the car.
Straight answers
Does Newmarket's ground change how you build a garage pad?
Yes. On the moraine sand in the south, the base drains fast and must be compacted well. On the clay till in the north and west, it must be deeper so frost does not lift the pad. We decide the details on site after we see your ground.
My lot is on low ground near the Holland River. Is that a problem for a pad?
It changes the base. The water table climbs there after the spring melt, so the pad needs a base that drains and a surface sloped away. We check the lot at the free site visit.
Do I need concrete for a shed in Newmarket, or will gravel do?
A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will tell you so. Concrete is the right answer once the shed is a workshop, stores anything heavy, or needs anchoring against wind.
How much does a concrete garage pad cost in Newmarket?
Size, thickness, the reinforcement the load needs, access to the site and the base your ground needs all move the number. A garage floor costs more than a shed pad because it is thicker and carries more steel. We give you a written quote after a free site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
