Empire Canals is built on disturbed subdivision soil that keeps settling for a season or two, so we compact the base mechanically instead of trusting it. A pad is a good first pour on a new lot, but only once the builder has set your final grade.
Not every shed needs concrete. A light resin shed sits happily on a gravel pad, and we would rather tell you that at the site visit than pour concrete you do not need.
Old pads on the canal blocks
Century streets along the old canal come with settled steps and century foundations. When an old slab is in the way of the new one, it comes out first, and we plan that into the same visit and quote.
Cure time and Welland winters
Welland takes close to a metre of snow most winters, and freeze-thaw and road salt work on every exposed pour. We use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete outdoors and on garage floors. Plan on vehicles after 48 hours at the earliest and framing after about 7 days, with full design strength at 28 days.
