Concrete Slabs & Garage Pads in Simcoe, Norfolk County
We pour shed pads, hot tub pads and detached garage slabs across Simcoe in Norfolk County, the town near Lake Erie, not Simcoe County near Barrie. Simcoe sits on sand that drains well but washes out wherever water runs in one place, so a pad here is decided by a compacted granular base, contained edges and where the runoff goes. Union-certified crews, a free written quote that holds, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Simcoe sits on the Norfolk sand plain. Meltwater drains down through sand instead of freezing in layers under a slab, so a pad here heaves less than it would in a clay town like Woodstock or Brantford. The trade is erosion: sand moves wherever water runs in one place, and it leaves from under an edge or a corner first.
That decides how we build a pad in Simcoe. The full build, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the compacted Granular A base, mesh or rebar by load, is on our concrete slabs and garage pads page. This page covers what Simcoe's ground and homes change. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number you pay.
Sand under a pad: edges, base and runoff
A detached garage pad in Southern Ontario is usually a floating slab, with no deep foundation, so the whole pad rides any movement of the ground as one piece. On Simcoe sand the risk is less frost lift and more a pad edge with the ground washed out from under it. So we compact the granular base in lifts, thicken the edges where the walls will sit, and keep concentrated water away from the pad's perimeter.
Before we set forms, we look at where the downspouts empty and where the pad's own runoff will land. A downspout that has discharged beside the same corner for thirty years is often why an old slab broke there, so moving that water is part of the job.
Lake Erie winters and road salt on a garage floor
Lake Erie keeps Simcoe winters swinging back and forth through zero instead of locking into one long freeze. That means more freeze-thaw cycles each season for any concrete that holds water on its surface. Add road salt tracked in on parked cars, and air-entrained mix is the right choice for a garage floor here.
A garage or shop floor carries a vehicle, so it gets a 10M rebar grid at a 400 mm spacing and a slab 125 to 150 mm thick. We slope the floor toward the door so melt off the car finds its way out. Keep vehicles off a new slab for at least 48 hours.
Shed and hot tub pads on newer lots
The newer edges of town and the rural lots along the highways toward Port Dover, Delhi and Waterford are where the calls come in for a garage pad, a shed pad or a hot tub pad. A hot tub pad has to be level and reinforced for the load, because a filled tub with people in it is heavy. We pour it a little larger than the tub's footprint so the steps and service panels land on concrete.
A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will say so at the visit rather than sell concrete you do not need. Concrete is the right answer once the shed is a workshop, stores anything heavy, or needs anchoring against wind.
Century streets: when an old pad is in the way
Streets near the downtown and the Lynn River hold homes from the 1850s onward. If an old cracked pad or garage floor is in the way, we take it out and look for what failed under it first; see our concrete removal and demolition in Simcoe. Simcoe anchors our Norfolk County routes, so crews are in or passing through town most weeks of the pouring season.
Straight answers
Do you work in Simcoe in Norfolk County, or Simcoe County near Barrie?
Simcoe the town, in Norfolk County near Lake Erie. Simcoe County is a separate region around Barrie, and we do not work there. If your postal code starts with N3Y, we cover you.
Does Simcoe's sandy ground change how you build a garage pad?
It changes where we put the effort. Sand drains well, so frost lifts a pad less than clay does, but it washes out where water runs in one place. We compact a granular base in lifts, thicken the edges where the walls will sit, and move downspout and runoff water away from the pad.
Do I need concrete for a shed in Simcoe, or will gravel do?
A light resin shed does fine on a compacted gravel pad, and we will tell you so. Concrete is the right answer once the shed is a workshop, stores anything heavy, or needs anchoring against wind.
How much does a concrete garage pad cost in Simcoe?
Size, thickness, the reinforcement the load needs, access to the site and the base the ground needs all move the number. A garage floor costs more than a shed pad because it is thicker and carries more steel. We give you a written quote after a free site visit, and the number we give you is the number you pay.
