Concrete Patios in Simcoe, Norfolk County
We pour concrete patios across Simcoe in Norfolk County, the town near Lake Erie, not Simcoe County near Barrie. Simcoe sits on the Norfolk sand plain, so we build each patio on a contained, compacted granular base, slope it about 2 percent away from the house, and keep downspout water off its edges. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Simcoe sits on the Norfolk sand plain, and sand changes how a patio fails. In clay towns, frost lifts the slab. Here, meltwater drains down through the ground instead of freezing in layers under the concrete, so heave is less of a problem. The problem is erosion. Sand moves wherever water runs in one place.
So the usual Simcoe patio failure is not a slab pushed up by frost. It is an edge or a corner sitting on sand that has washed out underneath, often below a downspout that empties beside the patio. A Simcoe patio is won at the edges and the base.
The full method, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the 100 mm slab, the compacted Granular A base and the control joints, is on our concrete patios page. This page is about what Simcoe's ground and homes change. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
On sand, the patio and the water are one job
Every patio we pour slopes about 2 percent away from the house, so its runoff leaves over the outer edges. On Simcoe sand, that water has to land somewhere it cannot dig. Before the forms go in, we plan with you where the patio's runoff and the downspouts go, and we contain the edges so the base cannot wash out from the side.
Low ground near the Lynn River is different again. The water table sits high there, so the ground close to the house already holds more water. On a lot like that, the slope away from the foundation matters even more. We check which ground you have at the site visit and set the base and the grade to suit it.
Lake Erie winters and a patio that holds up
Lake Erie keeps Simcoe winters moving back and forth through zero instead of staying frozen. That means more freeze-thaw cycles each season for any concrete that holds water on its surface. A patio that drains, poured with air-entrained concrete and sealed at about 28 days, is the right answer to that.
Foot traffic can go on a new patio after 24 to 48 hours, and furniture after 7 days. Broom finish gives good grip and is the most affordable. Exposed aggregate adds texture, and stamped concrete adds pattern and colour; see our stamped and decorative concrete page if you are weighing it.
Century backyards and newer lots
Much of Simcoe is old. Streets near the downtown and the river hold homes from the 1850s onward, with 1920s to 1950s blocks and postwar bungalows around them. Behind those houses, a new patio often starts with taking out an old cracked slab and finding what failed under it. If the old patio went in flat or sloped toward the house, the new one fixes that.
The newer edges of town and the rural lots along the highways toward Port Dover, Delhi and Waterford are where a first patio is the usual job. Either way, the quote is written, and it names the tear-out, the base, the slab and the finish, so you can compare it with anyone else's.
Straight answers
Do you build patios in Simcoe in Norfolk County, or Simcoe County near Barrie?
Simcoe the town, in Norfolk County near Lake Erie. Simcoe County is a separate region around Barrie, and we do not work there. If your postal code starts with N3Y, we cover you.
Does Simcoe's sandy ground make a concrete patio easier or harder?
Easier in one way and harder in another. The sand drains quickly, so a Simcoe patio heaves less in winter than the same slab would on clay. The trade is erosion: sand washes out where water runs over it, so an edge or a corner can lose its support. We compact a granular base, contain the edges, and keep downspout water off the slab.
Our old patio has a sunken corner. Why, and can you fix it?
On Simcoe sand, a sunken corner usually means water has washed the sand out from under that part of the slab, often from a downspout or a low spot in the grading. We look at the slab and the water at the free site visit.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Simcoe?
Size, the finish you choose, access to the backyard, the tear-out of any old slab and the base the ground needs all move the number. Broom finish is the most affordable, exposed aggregate is a step up, and stamped work costs more. We give you a written quote after a free site visit, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
Can you pour a walkway to the patio at the same time?
Yes. A walkway poured with the patio shares the truck and the base crew, and we set the grades together so water runs away from both. See our [walkways and steps page for Simcoe](/services/concrete-walkways-steps/simcoe/) for how we build paths on the sand.
