Simcoe has homes from the 1850s onward and newer streets and rural lots around them. That means a lot of concrete at the end of its life: front steps that have settled, walks that have been patched and driveways that have lost their edges. When patching stops paying, the old concrete has to come out. That is the job this page covers.

The removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Simcoe ground and Simcoe homes change about that job.

On Simcoe sand, find out why the slab failed

Simcoe sits on the Norfolk sand plain. Meltwater drains through sand instead of freezing in layers under a slab, so driveways here heave less than they do in clay towns. The usual failure is quieter. Sand moves wherever water runs in one place, so a step footing or slab edge ends up with the ground washed out from under it, often by a downspout that has emptied in the same spot for thirty years.

That changes what we do once the old concrete is out. We look at where the support was lost and where the downspouts empty. If the base washed out, we compact new granular in lifts and contain the edges before any new pour. If concrete is not going back, we grade the space so water leaves it instead of running along the house.

Old steps, walks and driveways in the old core

Streets near the core hold homes from the 1850s onward, and the rings around them filled in from the 1920s through the postwar years. Their front steps and walks are often the first concrete to give out. A crumbling step or a short walk is a small job, and small jobs are welcome. They go on our Norfolk County route with a written quote.

Where a step has settled toward a gap, the removal is only half the fix. The water that moved the soil has to be rerouted, or the new work follows the old. See concrete walkways and steps in Simcoe and concrete driveways in Simcoe for what goes back in.

Booking removal in Simcoe

Simcoe anchors our Norfolk County routes, so even a small tear-out can ride a scheduled day. We reply to every request within one business day.

A small machine needs about a 36 inch gate. Where it cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit.

Questions

Straight answers

Do you do concrete removal in Simcoe, Norfolk County, or Simcoe County near Barrie?

Simcoe in Norfolk County, on the Lynn River near Lake Erie. Simcoe County, the region around Barrie, is a separate place and we do not work there.

Our Simcoe front steps are sinking on one side. Do they have to come out?

Often the sand under one corner has been carried off by a downspout or a low spot. We look at the steps and the water path at the site visit and tell you whether they can be repaired or have to come out. If they come out, we reroute the water and rebuild the base before the new steps.

Can you remove concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?

Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so it goes in the written quote after the site visit.

How much does concrete removal cost in Simcoe?

The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

What happens to the old concrete?

Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
