Concrete Slabs & Garage Pads in Mississauga

We pour garage pads, shed pads, hot tub pads and detached garage floors across Mississauga, from the old lakeshore lots in Port Credit, Lakeview and Clarkson to the newer surveys in Churchill Meadows and Lisgar. The city sits on clay, so the base under a pad decides whether it stays level. Union-certified crews, a free written quote that holds, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Mississauga has two kinds of ground. The old lakeshore belt below the Lake Iroquois shoreline is clay and silt laid down in glacial lake water, with a water table that runs high near the Credit River and Lake Ontario. Inland and to the north, the land is the clay till of the Peel plain. Wet clay swells, and frost lifts whatever sits on it. A pad on scraped topsoil tilts or cracks the first winter. See our Mississauga page for everything else we do in the city.

So we dig to stable ground and compact a Granular A base before we pour. Garage floors get 125 to 150 mm of 32 MPa air-entrained concrete on a 10M rebar grid, with edges thickened to about 300 mm. Shed and hot tub pads get mesh. The full method is on our concrete slabs and garage pads page. This page covers what Mississauga ground and Mississauga lots change about the job.

Newer surveys: a pad beside the builder's strip

In Erin Mills, Meadowvale, Churchill Meadows and Lisgar, a builder often pours the bare driveway strip and leaves the garage pad and the widened driveway for the owner to add later. The access is open, but the fill around the house is younger and keeps settling for a season or two. A pad poured on ground that is still moving can sink at one edge.

So on a newer lot we check the compaction before we pour, and dig out soft fill where we find it. If you plan to widen the driveway too, pour the pad and the widening on the same day: they share the truck and the crew day. Our Mississauga driveway page covers that side of the job.

Lakeshore lots: drainage under and around the pad

In Port Credit, Lakeview, Clarkson and Lorne Park, the clay drains slowly and holds melt for weeks after the snow goes. Water held in the ground freezes, and frost lifts what sits on it. On these lots we look at where the downspouts empty and how the yard drains before we pour, and we build the base deep enough to drain.

A pad beside an older house must also send water away from the wall, not toward it. Many of these foundations are on postwar lots and were rarely sealed to a modern standard. If the wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Mississauga first.

Old Streetsville, garage floors and planning the job

On the old village streets in Streetsville, a backyard often has mature trees, tight lot lines and narrow side yards. The site visit decides how the concrete gets to the back and where the crew works, and the written quote says so.

A detached garage floor wants anchor bolts set in the wet concrete and a gentle slope toward the door so snowmelt off the car drains out. Most detached garages need a building permit, and we flag that at the quote. Mississauga sits east of our home routes, so pads here book onto planned trips into the GTA with real dates, not a same-week promise. Keep vehicles off a new garage floor for 48 hours at least.

Questions

Straight answers

We just moved into Churchill Meadows. Can we pour a garage pad or shed pad now?

Usually after the lot has settled. New subdivision fill keeps compacting for a season or two, and a pad poured too early can sink at one edge. We check the compaction on the site visit and tell you if the ground is ready. A quote in spring usually gets you a better summer date.

Will a pad near Port Credit heave in winter?

A floating pad still rides some minor frost movement, but a well-built one moves as one piece instead of tilting or cracking. Lakeshore clay holds water, and frost lifts what sits on it. So we dig to stable ground, compact a granular base deep enough to drain, and slope a pad beside the house so water runs away from the wall.

Rebar or mesh for a garage pad in Mississauga?

Rebar for anything that carries a vehicle: a 10M grid at 400 mm, with thickened edges on a floating garage slab. Mesh is right for light pads like sheds and hot tubs. The written quote names the reinforcement, so you can compare it with any other quote.

How much does a concrete pad cost in Mississauga?

Size sets the start, then the load the pad carries, its thickness and reinforcement, the base your ground needs, and how easily the concrete can reach the spot. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
