Concrete Repair and Resurfacing in St. George, Ontario
We repair cracked, sunken and worn concrete in St. George: crack injection, slab lifting, resurfacing, step rebuilds and sealing. Clay that holds water and heaves in frost is hard on pads and walks here, and the older homes and farms add worn porches and steps. We find the cause before we quote the fix, and we tell you plainly when replacement is the better spend. The quote is free and written, you get a reply within one business day, and the labour carries our lifetime warranty.

St. George sits up on a clay plain. The ground here holds spring melt instead of draining it, and when frost goes deep the same clay grips concrete and lifts it. A thin pad poured on ground that was not compacted rarely stays flat for long.
Most of that concrete does not need to come out. A crack can be injected, a sunken slab lifted back to grade, a worn surface ground and resurfaced, and a broken step formed and re-poured. The full method for each is on our concrete repair and resurfacing page. This page covers what St. George's clay, its farm properties and its mix of old and new homes change about the job.
Clay, frost and why St. George slabs move
Clay does not drain, so water collects under and beside a slab and stays there through the thaw. When frost drives deep, that wet clay lifts a corner or a walk panel. When it thaws, the slab can come down unevenly, or the base can soften and let it sink.
So a St. George repair starts underneath. We check the base, the grade and where the downspouts send their water before we quote. A slab lifted while a downspout keeps soaking its base will move again, so we steer the water clear as part of the fix.
Porches, steps and walks on older homes
The blocks off Main Street mix century homes with postwar infill, and the repair work there is mostly steps, porch slabs and walks that have worn out. Broken step edges and spalled treads are formed and re-poured with air-entrained 32 MPa mix. A worn surface on a sound slab can be ground back and given a bonded overlay instead of a tear-out.
Once a surface has pitted badly, sealing slows the damage but cannot reverse it. Past a point, replacement beats another patch, and the written quote tells you which side of that line your concrete is on. If the porch has lost its footing and the wall above it is moving, that is a foundation question, and we will say so. See our foundation repair page.
Farm lanes, shop floors and equipment pads
Past the village limits, rural properties ask more of concrete. Lanes get plowed and salted all winter, and tractor and trailer loads are more than a house-spec slab was sized for. A cracked equipment pad or a shop floor that has settled can often be injected or lifted rather than torn out.
At the visit we look at the pad and the base under it, and tell you whether lifting or a re-pour suits that section.
Newer lots in St. George Village and StoneyRidge
St. George Village and StoneyRidge are newer lots. A single settled panel or a cracked step on a newer lot is a small repair and gets the same written quote and labour warranty as a full pour.
Water coming into the basement is a separate job from slab repair. See our basement waterproofing in St. George page.
Straight answers
Should I repair or replace the cracked concrete at my St. George home?
It depends on the base. Repair wins when the damage is local and the base under it is still sound: one or two cracks, a slab that settled on one side, surface pitting or a broken step edge. Replacement wins when the slab has cracked all over, the base has failed across the whole area, or the surface has scaled so deep there is nothing sound to bond to. The written quote says which side of that line your concrete is on, and why.
Can you lift a sunken walk or slab instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. We pump material through small holes drilled in the slab to fill the void under it and float it back to grade. Mudjacking uses a sand-and-cement slurry and wants a day or two before traffic; polyurethane foam uses smaller holes and takes traffic the same day. On St. George's clay we first find out why the base gave way, so the slab does not sink again.
How much does concrete repair cost in St. George?
There is no honest flat rate. The cost moves with the size of the area, how severe the damage is, the base and soil, access and the season. The visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
Will you come out to St. George for a small repair, like one bad step?
Yes. St. George is on our weekly Brant County route, so a single panel, a parging patch or a rebuilt front step gets a written quote and the same labour warranty as a full pour.
