Concrete Repair and Resurfacing in Fergus, Ontario
We repair cracked, sunken and worn concrete on Fergus homes: crack injection, slab lifting, resurfacing, step rebuilds and sealing. A lot of it is on the limestone and century streets near St. Andrew Street and the Grand River gorge, where steps, walls and walks have been through many Wellington winters. We find the cause before we quote the fix, and when a repair won't hold, we say so and quote the replacement straight. The quote is free and written, you get a reply within one business day, and the labour carries our lifetime warranty.

Fergus pulls concrete work two ways. The old core around St. Andrew Street and the gorge has limestone houses and century steps and walks that call for repair. The new subdivisions spreading across Centre Wellington are younger, and fresh lots there keep settling for a season or two.
Most of that concrete does not need to come out. A crack can be injected, a sunken slab lifted back to grade, a worn surface ground and resurfaced, and a broken step formed and re-poured. The full method for each is on our concrete repair and resurfacing page. This page covers what Fergus ground and older houses change about the job.
Why concrete moves on Fergus clay-loam and near the gorge
Fergus sits on drumlin clay-loam over limestone, and the Grand River has cut down to the rock here. The clay-loam holds water and lifts a slab when frost gets under a thin or poorly compacted base. A walk or pad that lifts every winter and settles every spring opens cracks as it moves, and a void can wash out beneath it.
Down near the gorge the limestone sits closer to the surface, and the older lots carry a higher water table and more spring damp. A Fergus repair starts underneath: we check the base, the grade and where the downspouts send their water before we quote. A crack filled over a slab that is still moving opens again by spring.
Steps, walks and limestone homes in the old core
The heritage streets are lined with limestone and century homes, and their front steps and walks were often poured or cut generations ago. Salt and freeze-thaw work on them from the top down. Spalled treads and broken edges are formed and re-poured with air-entrained 32 MPa mix, and a worn but sound surface can be ground back and given a bonded overlay instead of a tear-out.
The aim is a repair that is sound, even and safe underfoot, and looks like part of the house.
Settled walks and pads on newer Centre Wellington lots
New subdivision ground keeps settling for a season or two. A walk or garage pad poured over soft fill can sink along one edge, and we lift it back to grade once we know why the base gave way.
If a repair won't hold, we say so and quote the replacement straight. See our concrete patios in Fergus work for what a new slab involves.
When a crack is a foundation or water question
A crack in a walk or a garage slab is a repair job. A crack in a basement wall that leaks every spring, or parging that has let go on a limestone wall, is a different question.

Straight answers
Should I repair or replace the cracked concrete at my Fergus home?
It depends on the base. Repair is the better spend when the base under the damage is still sound: a crack injected, a slab lifted or a surface ground and resurfaced. When a repair won't hold, we say so and quote the replacement straight. The written quote says which side of that line your concrete is on.
Can you lift a sunken walk or slab in Fergus instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. We pump material through small holes drilled in the slab to fill the void under it and float it back to grade. Mudjacking uses a sand-and-cement slurry and wants 24 to 48 hours before traffic; polyurethane foam takes traffic the same day. Before we lift, we find out why the base washed out, so the slab does not sink again.
Can you fix the steps on an older limestone house in Fergus?
Often, yes. If the steps are still sound underneath, we can grind and resurface worn treads and rebuild broken edges. If a repair won't hold, we say so and quote the replacement straight.
How much does concrete repair cost in Fergus?
There is no honest flat rate. The cost moves with the size of the area, how far the damage goes, the condition of the base, access and the season. The visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
