Concrete Removal & Demolition in Vaughan

We break out and haul away old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs across Vaughan. In the older streets of Woodbridge and Thornhill, driveways are on their second life and sit on clay. In the newer surveys of Maple, Concord and Kleinburg, owners want the builder's bare strip replaced or widened. Quotes are free and written, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

Most of Vaughan sits on the clay till of the Peel plain, and the north edge meets the sandier Oak Ridges Moraine. That ground is why an old slab here is rarely just a slab to lift out: what sits under it decides how the new base has to be built. See our Vaughan page for everything else we do in the city.

The removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Vaughan ground and Vaughan homes change about that job.

Woodbridge and Thornhill: old slabs on clay

A driveway poured decades ago in Woodbridge or Thornhill rarely got the base depth we put down now. Clay heaves wherever frost gets under the slab, and once a panel lifts, water gets into the crack, freezes and pries it wider every winter. Past a point, resurfacing only buys a little time, and removing the old slab so a fresh one can go on a proper base is the better road.

Rebuilding the base after the tear-out

Clay swells when it is soaked and sheds water slowly. After the old concrete is out, we look at what is left underneath before anything new goes in, and the base is decided on site, lot by lot.

Toward Kleinburg the ground drains much faster, so the worry shifts from heave to washout and grading. A lot near the Humber valley and a lot on the high ground can need different prep. See concrete driveways in Vaughan and concrete patios in Vaughan for what goes back in.

Maple, Concord and Kleinburg: making room for the bigger pour

The newer surveys want what the builder left undone: a back patio, a drive widened past the bare strip, a pad for the garage. Where an old strip or small pad is in the way of the new work, it comes out first.

Doing the tear-out and the new pour with one crew means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open. Vaughan jobs are grouped into planned trips and booked on real dates, not a same-day call. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome.

Questions

Straight answers

Does the base need attention after old concrete comes out on Vaughan clay?

Yes. Clay swells with water and heaves under frost, so a new slab needs a base dug to depth and compacted hard. We check what is under the old slab and decide the base on site.

How much does concrete removal cost in Vaughan?

The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost, so a flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.

What happens to the old concrete?

Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
