Concrete Patios in Vaughan
We pour concrete patios across Vaughan, from the older backyards of Woodbridge and Thornhill to the new surveys in Maple, Concord and Kleinburg. Most of the city sits on heavy Peel-plain clay, so we build each patio on a compacted base and slope it about 2 percent away from the house. Union-certified crews, a free written quote, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

If you want a concrete patio in Vaughan, start with the ground. Most of the city sits on the clay till of the Peel plain. Clay swells when it is soaked, it heaves when frost drives down under a slab in January, and it sheds water slowly, so spring melt can sit against a foundation for weeks.
A patio on that ground has two jobs. It must stay flat through the winter, and it must move water away from the house, not toward it. A slab poured on clay without a proper compacted base tends to crack and lift inside a few seasons, and a slab that tips toward the house sends every rainfall at the basement wall.
The full method, the 32 MPa air-entrained mix, the 4-inch slab, the base and the control joints, is on our concrete patios page. This page is about what Vaughan's ground and homes change. The site visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number you pay.
Clay in the south, moraine sand in the north
On the Peel-plain clay under Woodbridge, Thornhill, Maple and Concord, the risk is frost heave and water held against the house. We dig out to firm ground, build and compact the base, and set the slope so the patio sheds water away from the foundation. We also check where your downspouts empty before the forms go in.
Toward Kleinburg, the land feels the Oak Ridges Moraine, glacial sand and gravel that drains much faster than the clay to the south. There the risk changes from heave to washout: runoff off the patio's edge can erode the ground under it. On those lots we pay more attention to the edges, the grade and where the water lands.
New surveys and older backyards
On the new streets in Maple, Concord, around the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and out toward Kleinburg, the builder pours the driveway and the front walk and leaves the backyard for the owner. The patio is often the first job. Soil on a fresh survey keeps settling for a year or two after the house goes up, and a slab poured on moving ground cracks early. Give the lot time; we check the compaction before we commit to a pour.
The longer-standing parts of Woodbridge and Thornhill are the other Vaughan. Here a new patio often starts with taking out an old cracked slab and finding what failed under it. If the old patio went in flat or sloped toward the house, the new one fixes that. If the basement already takes on water in a wet March, tell us at the visit, because the patio's grade is part of the answer.
Finish, cure and when to book
Broom finish gives grip and is the most affordable. Exposed aggregate adds texture. Stamped concrete adds pattern and colour; see our stamped and decorative concrete page if you are weighing it. Whatever the finish, the slab is 32 MPa air-entrained concrete, the mix made for freeze-thaw winters and road-salt splash.
You can walk on a new patio in 24 to 48 hours, set furniture on it after about a week, and we seal it at about 28 days. Pour season runs April to November. Vaughan is reached by the 400 and the 407, so we book jobs here into planned trips and give you a real date. Quote in spring: the new-build streets fill the summer calendar fast.
Straight answers
Does Vaughan's clay make a concrete patio harder to build?
It makes the base matter more. Peel-plain clay swells when wet and heaves under frost, so a patio poured straight onto it tends to crack and lift. We dig to firm ground, compact a proper base, and slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house so water does not collect against the foundation.
We just moved into a new house in Maple. When can we put in a patio?
Give the lot time first. Soil on a new survey keeps settling for a year or two after the build, and pouring on ground that is still moving is how a patio cracks early. We check the compaction before we commit to anything. Ask for a quote in spring, because the new-build streets fill the summer calendar fast.
Our lot is near Kleinburg on sandier ground. Does that change the patio?
Yes. The north of the city feels the Oak Ridges Moraine, where sand and gravel drain fast. The worry there is washout, not heave: runoff off the patio's edge can erode the ground under it. We contain the edges, set the grade carefully and plan where the water goes. We look at your lot before we quote.
Can you replace an old cracked patio behind a Woodbridge home?
Yes. We take out the old slab, fix what failed under it, and pour a new patio sloped away from the house. The labour carries our lifetime warranty for as long as you own the home.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Vaughan?
Size, the finish you choose, access to the backyard, and the base the ground needs all move the number. Broom finish is the most affordable, exposed aggregate is a step up, and stamped work, borders and multiple levels cost more. We give you a written quote after a free site visit, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.
