Uxbridge sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine, a ridge of glacial sand and gravel, and that ground drains fast. Water moves down through it instead of sitting under a slab, so a slab here sees less frost heave than one on clay. See our Uxbridge page for everything else we do in town.
The removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler, not a landfill. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Uxbridge ground and Uxbridge properties change about that job.
Long rural and estate driveways
Much of the township is estate lots, hobby farms and properties on long single concession roads, so a lot of the removal here is a long approach driveway or a wide turnaround. A long run means more tonnage to break and haul, and it means the machine path and the truck loading spot are planned at the site visit, not on the day.
Once the old slab is out, we look at the sand base under it. Sand drains well, but it can wash out from under an edge on a sloped lot when the edges are left open. If the base is sound, we re-grade and compact it for the new pour. If water ran off the old driveway and took the shoulder with it, we fix the pitch and the edge before anything new goes in. See concrete driveways in Uxbridge for what goes back in.
Village core and hamlet homes: steps, walks and old pads
The heritage streets in the village core and the hamlets such as Goodwood, Sandford and Leaskdale have older homes. Their front steps have settled, and their walkways have heaved out of line. Small tear-outs like one step, a walk or a shed pad are welcome and ride along on the same planned trips as the larger jobs.
These lots are tighter than the estates. A small machine needs about a 36 inch gate. Where it cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit, and we plan it to spare the lawn, the fence and the neighbour's side. See concrete patios in Uxbridge for a replacement patio.
Booking removal in Uxbridge
Uxbridge is up in north Durham, well off our home routes in southwestern Ontario, so we are not minutes away and will not pretend to be. We group Uxbridge jobs into planned trips and give you a real date, not a same-week promise.
Doing the tear-out and the new pour with one crew means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open, and you pay for one trip, not two. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Do I have to remove the old slab before a new pour in Uxbridge?
Often yes. A fresh structural slab poured over a cracked or heaving one copies the old movement upward. Where the old concrete is sound and stable, a resurfacing overlay can be a real option, and we will say so at the site visit.
Can you remove a long rural driveway out on the concessions?
Yes. We measure the run at the site visit, plan the machine path and the truck loading spot, and quote breakout, hauling, disposal and grading as separate items. We can quote the new pour with it as one job.
Can you take out concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?
Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so we put it in the written quote after the site visit.
How much does concrete removal cost in Uxbridge?
The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
What happens to the old concrete?
Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
