Concrete Driveways in Uxbridge

We pour new and replacement concrete driveways across Uxbridge, from the village streets to long approaches out on the concessions. The township sits high on the Oak Ridges Moraine, so the ground is sand and gravel that drains fast but needs a contained, compacted base and locked edges. Union-certified crews, a free written quote that holds, and a lifetime warranty on labour.

Uxbridge sits where the Oak Ridges Moraine peaks. The moraine is glacial sand and gravel. Water soaks down through sand, so a slab on it heaves less in winter than the same slab on clay.

The same sand is the risk. Loose sand will not hold a base by itself, and on a sloped rural lot it can wash out from under an open edge. So an Uxbridge driveway is decided in the base, the grade and the edges. The full spec lives on our concrete driveways page; this page is about what an Uxbridge driveway needs in particular.

A base and edges built for moraine sand

We excavate to firm ground, place the granular base in compacted lifts, and contain the edges so the base cannot spread or wash out from under the slab. Then we pour air-entrained 32 MPa concrete, the mix for slabs that live with freeze-thaw and road salt, and saw-cut the control joints.

We pitch the slab so meltwater and runoff leave the surface, and we read each lot for how water moves before we pour. Two lots on the same concession can need different prep, so we decide the base on site.

Long rural approaches and turnarounds

Much of the township is estate lots, hobby farms and hamlets like Goodwood, Sandford and Leaskdale, with long driveways off the concession roads. A long run is mostly a grade and drainage job: we measure the run, set the pitch, and plan the joints for the length. Where trucks or trailers park, we pour 125 mm instead of 100 mm.

The Township's entrance permit

The Township of Uxbridge requires a road entrance permit when you build a new driveway or widen an existing one. The permit covers the entrance and the Township road allowance it meets. If your job adds or widens an entrance, plan for the permit before the pour date; we work the entrance into the quote and the schedule.

Uxbridge is in north Durham, well off our home routes, so we group Uxbridge jobs into planned trips and give you real dates. A new slab needs vehicles kept off for 48 hours at least, so plan the pour around when you need the car.

Questions

Straight answers

Does a concrete driveway on Uxbridge's moraine sand need a different base?

Yes. The sand and gravel drain fast, so frost heave is less of a problem than on clay. But loose sand will not hold a base on its own, and an open edge can wash out on a slope. We build a contained, compacted base and lock the edges, and we decide the details on site.

Will you pour a long driveway out on the concessions?

Yes. Long approaches and turnarounds are a lot of the driveway work around Uxbridge. We measure the run, sort the grade and drainage, and give you a written number before anything is booked.

Do I need a permit for a new driveway in Uxbridge?

The Township of Uxbridge requires a road entrance permit for a new driveway or a widened one. Check with the Township before the work starts. If your job changes the entrance, we plan the pour around the permit.

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Uxbridge?

Length, width, finish, access, tear-out of an old slab and the base the ground needs set the number. A long rural approach is a different job from a village drive, so a flat figure online would only mislead you. We give you a written number after a free visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
