Concrete Removal & Demolition in Oakville
My Concrete Pros breaks out, hauls and recycles old driveways, patios, walks, steps and pads across Oakville, as its own job or as day one of a new pour. Most of the town sits on Halton clay, so what we leave under the old slab matters as much as taking it out. We order the utility locates, saw-cut the edges that stay, and itemize the tear-out on a free written quote. When we pour the new concrete, that work carries our lifetime warranty on labour.

In the established south, Old Oakville, Bronte, Glen Abbey, River Oaks and Joshua Creek, a tear-out is usually part of replacing a driveway, walk or steps that have aged out. North of Dundas, in The Preserve, Glenorchy, Joshua's Meadows and Oakvillage, much of the concrete is a first pour. See our Oakville page for everything else we do in town.
The method is the same everywhere: locates, saw cuts, breakout, hauling to a recycler, then grading. It is set out on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Oakville ground and Oakville homes change about that job.
Why the old slab failed decides what goes back in
Most of Oakville sits on Halton till, a silty clay over soft shale. Clay swells when it is wet and lets frost lift a slab on a shallow base. When a slab heaves or cracks, the cause can be the base under it, not the concrete itself.
So when the old slab is gone, we look at the ground before anything goes back. If new concrete is coming, we dig to stable ground and compact the base in lifts while the ground is open. If the slab is gone for good, we grade the area and finish it with gravel or topsoil. Nothing gets buried on site.
Older homes in the south: tight yards and walls that stay
We saw-cut wherever old concrete meets concrete that stays, such as a foundation wall, an old step or a neighbour's fence, and we use jackhammers instead of a machine beside the house. A backyard behind a narrow gate means the smallest machine or hand breakout, and we tell you that at the quote.
Low ground near Sixteen Mile Creek and Bronte Creek holds more water in spring. If a wall beside the old slab already lets water in, the tear-out is a good time to look at it. We can check basement waterproofing in Oakville while the ground is open.
Tear-out and new pour with one crew
A tear-out is often day one of a replacement: an old driveway out before a new concrete driveway in Oakville, or a heaved patio out before a new concrete patio in Oakville. One crew does both, so you pay one mobilization, and the base is rebuilt by the people who pour on it.
Utility locates are required by Ontario law before any digging, and we order them as part of the job. Allow about a week for the marking. If the new driveway changes its width or curb cut, the Town wants a say before the pour, and we flag that at the quote. We reach Oakville on our regular Halton routes, and we reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Our driveway in Glen Abbey is cracked and heaving. Do we need a full tear-out?
It depends on why it moved. On Oakville clay, heaving can come from a base that failed under the slab, and new concrete poured over a failed slab copies its movement. We look at the base at the visit. If the slab is sound and only the surface is tired, resurfacing may be the better answer, and we will say so at the visit.
How much does concrete removal cost in Oakville?
The slab's thickness, how much rebar or mesh is in it, and how a machine reaches it set the number. A driveway open to the street is the easy case; a backyard patio behind a narrow gate takes longer. We do not post a figure, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.
Do I need a permit to remove a driveway or patio in Oakville?
Removing flatwork normally needs no building permit. Utility locates are still required by Ontario law before any digging, and we order them. If the new driveway changes width or the curb cut, the Town wants a say before the pour, and we flag that at the quote.
What happens to the old concrete?
Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. Mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled separately. Nothing gets buried on site.
