Concrete Patios in Oakville
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios, gazebo slabs and pool decks across Oakville. Most of the town sits on Halton clay, so the base and the slope decide how long a patio lasts. North of Dundas the job is usually a first patio on builder's fill; on the older streets near the lake it is often a replacement beside an older foundation. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Oakville is two towns for a patio. The established south, from Old Oakville and Bronte to Glen Abbey, River Oaks and Joshua Creek, has older homes and older slabs. North of Dundas, in The Preserve, Glenorchy, Joshua's Meadows and Oakvillage, many new owners still have the bare backyard the builder left. See our Oakville page for everything else we do in town.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method is on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Oakville ground and Oakville homes change about that job.
Halton clay: the base decides the patio
Most of Oakville sits on Halton till, a silty clay over soft shale. Clay drains slowly, swells when it is wet, and lets frost lift a slab on a shallow base. A patio that heaves or settles toward the house sends rain and spring melt to the wall.
So we dig to stable ground, compact the granular base in lifts, and grade it so water runs away from the house. Sixteen Mile Creek and Bronte Creek cut through the town to the lake, and the low ground near them holds more water in spring. On those lots, drainage gets extra care. If an older wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Oakville before a patio goes in beside it.
New builds north of Dundas: wait for the ground
The new surveys north of Dundas sit on disturbed clay fill, and the ground along a new foundation keeps moving for a year or two. A patio poured too early can sink at the house edge and tip toward the wall.
Wait until the builder sets the final grade and the lot has settled for a season. Then we check the ground on the site visit and compact the base mechanically instead of trusting the fill. Ask for the quote in spring, because summer dates fill up fast.
Finishes, gazebos and pool decks
On many Oakville streets a plain broom slab would look wrong against the house. A stamped or decorative finish can read as stone, brick or plank, exposed aggregate shows the stone in the surface, and a tinted broom finish is a quieter upgrade. We bring samples to the site visit so you can hold them against your brick and stone.
A pad that carries a gazebo is not ordinary patio space. Bring the gazebo plan to the visit, and we plan the base, reinforcement, edge thickness and anchors for it. Pool decks get a grip finish, broom or exposed aggregate, and a slope away from the water. We reach Oakville on our regular Halton routes, and we reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
We just moved into a new build in The Preserve. When can we pour a patio?
After the builder sets the final grade and the lot has settled for a season. The new surveys north of Dundas sit on disturbed clay fill, so we compact the base mechanically instead of trusting it. Ask for the quote in spring to get a better summer date.
Why do Oakville patios crack, heave or tip toward the house?
Most of the town sits on clay. It holds water, swells, and lets frost lift a slab on a shallow base. We dig to stable ground, compact the base in lifts, and slope the patio about 2 percent away from the house.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Oakville?
Size, the finish you pick, how easily the truck can reach the backyard, the base the clay needs, and any extra levels set the number. A stamped finish is priced as an upgrade over plain broom. We do not post a figure, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Can you pour a pad for a gazebo or a deck around our pool?
Yes. Bring the gazebo plan to the visit, and we plan the base, reinforcement, edge thickness and anchors for it. Pool decks get a grip finish and a slope that drains away from the water.
