Concrete Removal & Demolition in Niagara Falls

We break out and haul away old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs across Niagara Falls. The ground is heavy clay that heaves a thin slab when frost gets under it, Drummondville has the oldest homes in the city, and Stamford's postwar streets are sixty and seventy years on, so we plan every removal around the base underneath. Quotes are free and written, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

Niagara Falls sits below the escarpment on heavy clay that drains badly. Clay swells when wet and heaves when frost gets under a thin slab, and the lake air here keeps thawing and refreezing the ground all winter. See our Niagara Falls page for everything else we do in the city.

The removal itself follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Niagara Falls ground and Niagara Falls homes change about that job.

Drummondville and Stamford: older slabs, older ground

Drummondville, around Lundy's Lane and Main Street, holds the oldest homes in the city. Stamford carries postwar streets that are now sixty and seventy years on. A driveway or walk poured decades ago rarely sits on the base depth we use now. Water gets into a crack, freezes overnight and widens it a little more each cycle.

With the old concrete gone, we look at the base under it and how the ground drains. If the base held water, we dig it out and rebuild it before anything new goes in.

Chippawa and the newer streets: making room for the bigger pour

Chippawa sits low and flat where the Welland River meets the upper river, on heavy ground. If a slab there has settled or cracked, it comes out, and the base is checked for water before a new one goes in. Newer surveys fill in around Stamford. If a small pad or a narrow driveway is in the way of a patio, a garage pad or a wider driveway, it comes out first.

Doing the tear-out and the new pour with one crew means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open. See concrete driveways in Niagara Falls and concrete patios in Niagara Falls for what goes back in.

Tight lots and getting a machine in

Our smallest machines clear a 36 inch gate. Where a machine cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit, so the lawn, the fence and the neighbour's side are planned for, not found out on the day.

Niagara Falls jobs ride our regular Niagara run, so removal here books onto a routed day through the pouring season. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome. We reply to every request within one business day.

Questions

Straight answers

Why did my older Drummondville driveway heave, and will a new one do the same?

Water in the ground and a thin base are the usual suspects. A slab poured decades ago rarely got the base depth we use now, and the lake air keeps thawing and refreezing the ground all winter. When we take the old slab out, we check the base and the drainage, and fix what moved it before the new pour.

Can you take out concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?

Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so we put it in the written quote after the site visit.

How much does concrete removal cost in Niagara Falls?

The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.

What happens to the old concrete?

Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
