Concrete Patios in Niagara Falls
We pour concrete patios, gazebo pads and pool decks across Niagara Falls, from the newer streets out toward Garner Road to the older blocks of Stamford and Drummondville and the low Chippawa flats. The city sits on Haldimand clay that holds water, so every patio starts with a compacted base and a slope that sends water away from the house. Union-certified crews do the work, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the written quote is free.

Most Niagara Falls patio calls come from two kinds of yard. On the newer streets filling in around Stamford and out toward Garner Road, it is the first real patio, the one the builder skipped. In old Drummondville, the older Stamford blocks and Chippawa, it is often an old slab that has sunk or tipped toward the house. See our Niagara Falls page for everything else we do in the city.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a nice place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method and specs are on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Niagara Falls ground changes about that job.
Clay ground: the slope matters more here
Niagara Falls sits below the escarpment on the Haldimand clay plain. Clay drains badly and stays wet for weeks after the spring melt. A patio that is flat, or that has settled toward the house, sends that water to the foundation wall, and on clay the water has nowhere else to go.
So before we pour, we look at where the downspouts empty, how the yard drains, and where water stands after rain. We set the slope away from the house and plan the joints around the shape of the patio. In Chippawa and on the low ground near the Welland River, where the water table stays high into spring, this check comes first. If a wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Niagara Falls before a patio goes in beside it.
New builds near Garner Road: let the lot settle
Subdivision ground is disturbed soil that keeps settling, and on the clay here that matters. A patio poured on fresh fill can sink at the house edge and tip the wrong way. We usually tell you to wait until your final grade is set and the lot has been through a spring, then we check the compaction before we pour.
Ask for the quote in spring, because summer dates fill fast. If the fence and landscaping go in the same season, the yard gets torn up only once.
Freeze-thaw between two lakes
The city gets lake-effect snow off both Erie and Ontario, and the lake air keeps pushing the temperature back above freezing through the winter. That thaw-and-refreeze cycle is what cracks and flakes concrete. A patio lives through the same winters a driveway does, so it gets the same air-entrained 32 MPa mix and control joints cut early.
Niagara Falls patios book onto our regular Niagara run, reached along the lakeshore through Grimsby and St. Catharines, through the pouring season. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
We bought a new build near Garner Road. When can we pour a patio?
Usually the season after you close, once the final grade is set and the lot has been through a spring. New-build ground keeps settling, and on the clay out here a patio poured too early can sink and tip toward the wall. We check the compaction on the site visit and tell you if the lot is ready.
Will a new patio make my Chippawa basement wetter?
Not if it is built right. Chippawa is low and flat on heavy clay, and the water table stays high well into spring, so any slab that slopes toward the house sends water to the wall. We slope every patio about 2 percent away from the house and check where your downspouts empty. If your wall already leaks, we tell you before we pour.
Our old Drummondville patio has sunk toward the house. Can you fix it?
Usually the answer is a new patio on a new base. An older slab rarely sits on the base depth we use now, and a slab that has dropped toward the house is a base failure. Pouring new concrete on the same base only buys a few years of the same problem. We break out the old slab, fix the base and the slope, and pour fresh.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Niagara Falls?
The finish you pick and how easily the concrete truck can reach the backyard set most of the price. Size, the base the clay needs and any steps or levels set the rest. We do not post a flat number, because it would mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Can you pour a pad for a gazebo or a pool deck?
Yes. Bring the gazebo plan to the visit, and we plan the base, reinforcement, edge thickness and anchors for that structure. Pool decks get a grip finish, broom or exposed aggregate, and a slope that drains away from the water.
