Concrete Removal & Demolition in New Hamburg
We break out and haul away old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs in New Hamburg and the Wilmot farm country around it, from careful tear-out beside heritage brick downtown to farm pads and newer-survey driveways. Near the Nith River the ground holds more damp, so removal is the chance to check the base before anything new goes in. Quotes are free and written, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

New Hamburg sits on the Nith River, and the ground under old concrete changes between the river, the heritage core and the farms. See our New Hamburg page for everything else we do in town.
The removal follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what New Hamburg ground and New Hamburg homes change about that job.
Downtown and the river: take it out with care, then check the base
The core around the Nith is a designated Heritage Conservation District, and the low ground along the river carries a higher water table than the streets above. Foundations down near the water take on more damp. Taking old steps, a walk or a slab out beside old brick or stone means saw cuts that stop at the wall and hand work close to it, so the building is left as found.
With the concrete gone, we look at the base, where the downspouts empty and how the ground drains. If the base is holding water, we dig it out and rebuild it before anything new goes in. If the wall beside the open ground is damp, we can look at basement waterproofing or parging while it is open.
Newer surveys and farms: plan the tear-out around what goes back
Away from the river the ground runs to moraine sand and farm loam. These drain better than clay, so frost heaves a slab less. Sand and loam can wash out from under edges and steps, so the new base needs its edges contained and its runoff steered away. We plan that in when the old slab comes out.
In the newer subdivisions, a small pad or narrow driveway may come out to make room for a bigger pour. Doing the tear-out and the new pour as one job means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open. See concrete driveways in New Hamburg and concrete patios in New Hamburg for what goes back in. On the Wilmot farms, an old shop floor or equipment pad can be broken out and replaced the same way.
Booking removal in New Hamburg
New Hamburg books onto our Waterloo Region routes through the season, so removal jobs ride the regular weekly schedule.
A small machine needs about a 36 inch gate. Where it cannot get through, the concrete is broken by hand and carried out, which takes longer. We decide the machine path at the site visit. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome. We reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
Can you take out old steps or a walk beside a heritage home in New Hamburg?
Yes. We cut the concrete free with saws so the break stops at the wall, and we hand-work close to old brick and stone. Once it is out, we check the base and the drainage so the new work goes on a sound base.
Can you take out concrete in a backyard with a narrow gate?
Yes. Our smallest machines clear about a 36 inch gate. If there is no machine access, we break the concrete by hand and carry it out. It takes longer, so we put it in the written quote after the site visit.
How much does concrete removal cost in New Hamburg?
The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
What happens to the old concrete?
Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
