Concrete Removal & Demolition in Georgetown
We break out and haul away old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs across Georgetown. In the older streets around Main and Church, King and Queen, Delrex and Moore Park, removal is usually a driveway on its second or third surface coming out ahead of a new pour. Quotes are free and written, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized.

Georgetown sits on the downhill side of the Niagara Escarpment, on Halton Till, a stiff glacial clay-loam over red Queenston shale. That ground matters on tear-out day, because what is under the old slab decides what the new base has to do. See our Georgetown page for everything else we do in town.
The removal itself follows our usual method: utility locates before any machine digs, saw cuts where old concrete meets concrete that stays, mesh and rebar cut free, and the old concrete sent to a recycler. The full method is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page covers what Georgetown ground and Georgetown homes change about that job.
Older streets: a driveway on its second or third surface
The blocks around Main and Church and the King and Queen streets behind them were poured in several eras, and much of that flatwork is now on its second or third surface. Delrex and Moore Park hold postwar driveways and walks at the end of their service life. Removal there is usually the first day of a replacement.
Not every old piece has to come out. A sunken front step or a few heaved walk panels can sometimes be repaired instead, and we say which at the free site visit, so you do not pay for a tear-out you do not need.
Clay and shallow shale: what we find under the old slab
Halton Till holds water, and frost pushes a thin slab up. When an old Georgetown slab has lifted or cracked, the cause is usually in the base under it, so we look at what is left once the concrete is out and rebuild it. See concrete driveways in Georgetown for what goes back in.
South of Georgetown the glacial cover thins and shale bedrock comes up close to the surface in spots. A dig that is easy on one street can hit rock on the next. We read the lot before we quote, so the depth of the dig is in the written number and not a surprise on the day.
Georgetown South: newer lots on settling clay fill
Georgetown South has been built out survey by survey since 1989, and much of it sits on settling clay fill. On a very new lot we may tell you to wait a season before the new pour goes in. Doing the tear-out and the new pour with one crew means the base is rebuilt while the ground is open, and you pay for one trip, not two. Small jobs, like one walkway or an old shed pad, are welcome.
Straight answers
Do you take out the old driveway on my older Georgetown street and pour the new one?
Yes. We break out the old slab, haul it away, find what lifted or cracked it, usually water held in clay under a thin base, and fix that before we pour. Tear-out and disposal are itemized in the written quote.
Can my sunken front step be repaired instead of torn out?
Sometimes. A settled step or a few heaved walk panels can often be repaired rather than replaced. We tell you straight when a repair will hold and when replacing the piece is the better choice, and we say so at the free site visit.
Why does the dig change from one Georgetown street to the next?
The ground changes block to block. South of Georgetown the glacial till thins and the Queenston shale sits close to the surface in places, while nearby it is buried under deep clay. Shallow rock can change how deep we excavate, so we look at each lot on the site visit before we quote.
How much does concrete removal cost in Georgetown?
The thickness of the slab, how much mesh and rebar is in it, and how a machine reaches it set most of the cost. A flat rate posted online would only mislead you. You get a free written quote after a site visit, with breakout, hauling, disposal and grading itemized, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
What happens to the old concrete?
Clean concrete goes to a recycler and is crushed into road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled on their own.
