Concrete Removal & Demolition in Brantford

We break out, haul and dispose of old driveways, patios, walkways, steps and slabs across Brantford, as its own job or as day one of a new pour. Utility locates are ordered before any machine digs, edges are saw-cut where concrete stays, and the yard is graded when we leave. Brantford's clay and its old-ward lots change how we plan the base and the machine path. The quote is free and written, and any new concrete we pour carries our lifetime warranty on labour.

Brantford is a city of two housing ages. The streets near the river crossings, Eagle Place, Holmedale, Echo Place and Terrace Hill, hold much of the oldest housing, and the concrete there has had decades of salt and freeze-thaw. Out west, subdivisions along the Shellard Lane corridor in West Brant have builder-basic driveways that owners are now widening or replacing.

That split shapes the tear-out work. Old-ward lots and West Brant driveways come with different ground, access and starting points, and each gets planned on its own terms.

The full method, from saw cuts to recycling, is on our concrete removal and demolition page. This page is about what Brantford's ground and housing change about the job.

Brantford clay and what is under the old slab

Brantford sits on clay heavy enough that soil maps name a series after the city: Brantford clay loam. Clay holds water, and in a hard freeze it heaves. A slab that has cracked and lifted here often failed because of the base and the water under it, not only the concrete on top.

That is why we look at the ground as the concrete comes out. If the base failed, it gets rebuilt before the new pour, and we say so at the quote. Pouring new concrete over the same wet, heaved base would copy the old problem.

Old-ward lots: tight access and old concrete

On the older streets of Eagle Place, Holmedale, Echo Place and Terrace Hill, the way a machine reaches the slab matters most. A backyard patio behind a narrow gate means the smallest machine or hand breakout, with concrete carried out piece by piece. Those details are all visible at the free visit, which is why the quote happens at the property.

Old walks and steps in these wards often flake apart layer by layer after years of road salt. Past a point, replacement beats another patch. If your walk can still be saved, we say so, and concrete repair and resurfacing may be the better answer.

West Brant: widening and replacing builder driveways

In the newer streets off the Shellard Lane corridor, the common job is a driveway that closed a sale and no more. Part of it may come out so the new section can be doweled in, or the whole slab may go so a wider concrete driveway can replace it.

We cut a clean line where old concrete stays, so the breaker does not chew past it. One crew can then break out the old slab and pour the new one, so the base is rebuilt while the ground is already open.

Tear-out and a new pour, in one quote

Most removal we do is the start of something else. An old garage pad can make way for a proper slab or garage pad, and a heaved patio can come out for a bigger one. The tear-out and the new concrete go in one written quote, so you can compare it against pour-only quotes that leave the demolition out.

If the old concrete is leaving with nothing going back in, that is a fine job too. We grade the space and finish it with gravel or topsoil, and nothing is buried on site.

Questions

Straight answers

Do you do small tear-outs in Brantford, like one walkway or an old shed pad?

Yes. Small tear-outs are welcome. Brantford anchors the Brant County routes our crews drive, so a small job can fit into a regular route. It gets the same free written quote as a large one.

Do I need utility locates before my driveway or patio is removed in Brantford?

Utility locates are required by Ontario law before any digging, and we order them as part of the job. Allow about a week for the marking before the machine day. If the new driveway will change your width or curb cut, check with the city before the pour.

Can you tear out my old Brantford driveway and pour a new one in the same visit?

Yes. One crew does the breakout, rebuilds the base and pours the new slab, so the ground is only opened once. The tear-out and the new concrete are in one written quote, and the new concrete carries our lifetime warranty on labour.

How much does concrete removal cost in Brantford?

There is no honest flat rate. The cost follows how thick the slab is, how much rebar it holds, and how a machine can reach it. You get one written number after a free site visit, and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice unless you change the job.

What happens to the old concrete?

Clean concrete is hauled to a recycler and comes back as road base. The mesh and rebar are cut free and recycled separately. The site is graded and tidy when we leave.
