Concrete Patios in Paris, Ontario
We pour concrete patios across Paris, from the new backyards in Scenic Ridge, Scenic Ridge East and Mile Hill to the older lots of the upper and lower town. Every patio goes on a compacted granular base, sloped about 2 percent away from the house, with air-entrained 32 MPa concrete on top, because the clay under central Brant holds water and freezes deep. Union-certified crews do the work, the labour carries our lifetime warranty, and the quote is free and written, with a reply within one business day.

Patio work in Paris comes from two places. West of Highway 24, new lots in Scenic Ridge, Scenic Ridge East and Mile Hill often come with graded dirt where the patio should be. In the older blocks near the forks of the Grand and the Nith, owners want to replace a backyard slab that has heaved, cracked or tipped toward the house.
Either way, the ground decides the job. The full method (mix, slab thickness, base, joints and cure times) is on our concrete patios page. This page is about what Paris's clay, rivers and homes change about a patio.
Clay that holds water and freezes deep
The clay loam that covers central Brant holds spring moisture for weeks, then freezes deep in a cold winter. Water held under a patio on a thin base freezes and lifts the slab, and the slab cracks when it settles again in spring.
So we treat a Paris patio as a drainage job first. We dig to solid material, compact a granular base in lifts, slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, and look at where the downspouts empty before we set a form. On the lower streets near the forks, where the water table rises with the spring melt, that drainage check matters most.
New backyards in Scenic Ridge and Mile Hill
A new-build lot is backfilled, disturbed soil that keeps settling for a few seasons. We wait until the builder has set the final grade, then compact the base mechanically instead of trusting the ground as it is.
Pour the patio in the same season as your fence and landscaping, and you only tear up the yard once.
Finishes beside Paris's older homes
Behind an older house in the upper or lower town, a bright plain slab can look out of place. Exposed aggregate shows real stone in the finished surface, and a broom finish can be tinted a warm grey. Stamped concrete adds pattern and colour; see our stamped and decorative concrete page if you are weighing it. We bring finish samples to the site visit so you can hold them against the house first.
Replacing an old patio starts with tear-out. We break out the old slab, haul it away and find what failed under it before we pour. If the old patio sloped toward the house, the new one fixes that.
Straight answers
Why do patios in Paris crack and heave?
Mostly water in the clay. The clay loam under central Brant holds moisture after the spring melt and freezes deep in a cold winter. A slab on a thin base is lifted by that frost and cracks when it settles. The fix is a base dug to solid ground and compacted in lifts, a slope that moves water away from the house, and air-entrained 32 MPa concrete.
We just closed on a new build in Scenic Ridge. How soon can we add a patio?
Any time after the builder sets your final grade. Subdivision ground is disturbed soil that keeps settling for a few seasons, so we compact the base mechanically instead of trusting it. Pour the patio in the same season as your fence and landscaping, and you only tear up the yard once.
Which patio finish suits an older Paris home?
Exposed aggregate shows real stone in the surface, and a broom finish can be tinted a warm grey instead of bright white. Both sit well beside older houses. We bring samples to the site visit so you can see them against your house before anything is poured.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Paris?
Size, the finish you choose, access to the backyard, and the base the clay needs all move the number. A broom finish is the affordable end, exposed aggregate is a step up, and stamped work costs more. We give you a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
