Stamped concrete in Paris is a choice about the house it sits beside. The town is known for the river-stone buildings raised from 1839, and many of the older blocks have foundations and steps of the same vintage. West of Highway 24, Scenic Ridge, Scenic Ridge East and Mile Hill are adding phases, and many of those lots come with graded dirt where a patio should be.

Choosing a pattern beside Paris's river-stone homes
Nothing we pour will pass for the cobblestone masonry of the old town, and we will not pretend otherwise. What sits well beside an older house is a quieter stamped pattern, such as ashlar slate or random flagstone, in a warm grey or a colour matched to the stone, brick or trim, instead of a bright or busy surface.

Clay that holds water and freezes deep
Water held under a slab on a thin base freezes and lifts it. So we dig to solid material, compact a granular base in lifts, pour air-entrained 32 MPa concrete and slope the surface away from the house.
Control joints are saw-cut along the pattern's grout lines, so shrinkage cracks follow lines that were meant to be there. On the lower streets near the forks of the Grand and the Nith, where the water table rises with the spring melt, we check where the downspouts empty before we set a form.
New lots in Scenic Ridge and Mile Hill
A new-build lot is backfilled, disturbed soil that keeps settling for a few seasons, so we compact the base mechanically instead of trusting the ground as it is.
A stamped border around a plain broom field is a way to get much of the look from a smaller upgrade. Pour it in the same season as your fence and landscaping, and you only tear up the yard once.
Colour is kept with a resealing schedule
Stamping is a race against the set, so we size the crew to the pour, with enough certified finishers to colour, stamp and detail the whole surface before the concrete stiffens. We seal the finished surface with an acrylic sealer and an anti-slip additive, and we give you the resealing plan in writing before you sign.
