Concrete Driveways in Paris, Ontario
We pour new, widened and replacement concrete driveways across Paris, from the new streets off Rest Acres Road to the older blocks of the upper and lower town. Every driveway goes on a base dug to solid ground and compacted in lifts, with air-entrained 32 MPa concrete on top, because the clay under central Brant freezes deep and lifts a slab on a thin base. Union-certified crews do the work, the labour carries our lifetime warranty, and the quote is free and written, with a reply within one business day.

Driveway work in Paris comes from two places. West of Highway 24, Scenic Ridge, Scenic Ridge East and Mile Hill add new lots that want a wider driveway or a garage pad the builder did not pour. In the upper town's postwar blocks, owners call to replace a driveway that has heaved, cracked or pitted.
Either way, the ground decides the job. The full spec (mix, thickness, base and cure times) is on our concrete driveways page. This page is about what Paris's clay, rivers and new subdivisions change about a driveway.
Clay that holds water and freezes deep
The clay loam that covers central Brant holds spring moisture for weeks, then freezes deep in a cold winter. Water held under a driveway on a thin base freezes and pushes the slab up, and the slab cracks when it settles again in spring.
So we dig to solid material, build a Granular A base up in compacted lifts, and go deeper on soft clay. We grade the slab so melt runs off it and away from the house, and we look at where the downspouts empty before we set a form. On the lower streets near the forks of the Grand and the Nith, where the water table rises with the spring melt, that drainage check matters most.
New lots in Scenic Ridge and Mile Hill
A new-build lot is backfilled, disturbed soil that keeps settling for a few seasons. We compact the base mechanically instead of trusting the builder's grade, and we wait until the final grade is set.
Widening a builder's driveway or adding a garage apron is regular work. We match the new slab's height to the old one, dowel into the existing edge where it makes sense, and place the joint so the addition looks planned. Where a trailer or work truck parks, we pour 125 mm instead of 100 mm.
Replacing an older driveway in the upper and lower town
Replacing an old driveway starts with tear-out. We break out the old slab, haul it away, and find what cracked or lifted it, usually water held in clay under a thin base, before we pour fresh concrete on a new base.
Next to the town's older stone houses, a bright plain slab can look out of place. Exposed aggregate shows real stone in the finished surface, and a broom finish can be tinted a warm grey. We bring finish samples to the site visit so you can hold them against the house first.
Straight answers
Why do driveways in Paris heave and crack?
Mostly water in the clay. The clay loam under central Brant holds moisture after the spring melt and freezes deep in a cold winter. A slab on a thin base is lifted by that frost and cracks when it settles. The fix is depth and drainage: a base dug to solid ground and compacted in lifts, a grade that sheds water, and air-entrained 32 MPa concrete on top.
We just moved into Scenic Ridge. Can you widen our driveway?
Yes. Widenings and garage aprons are regular work for our crews. On a new lot we compact the base mechanically, because subdivision backfill keeps settling for a few seasons. We match the new concrete's height to the existing slab and place the joint line so the addition looks planned.
When can I drive on a new concrete driveway?
Keep vehicles off for 48 hours at least, longer in cold weather. Keep heavy trucks, trailers and moving vans off for a full week.
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Paris?
There is no honest flat rate. Size sets the start, then the finish, the base the clay needs, access, and whether an old slab has to come out. The visit and the written quote are free, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
