Concrete Patios in Milton
My Concrete Pros pours concrete patios and gazebo slabs across Milton. In the new surveys south of the 401, most backyards sit on builder fill over heavy clay, so we let the lot settle and compact the base by machine before we pour. Near the older Main Street core, the job is mostly about sending water away from an old foundation. Quotes are free and written, and the labour carries a lifetime warranty.

Most new Milton homes come with a bare backyard. The surveys south of the 401, like Hawthorne Village, Coates, Scott, Willmott, Ford and Cobban, are new houses on fresh-graded lots, and a real patio behind the house is one of the first pours a builder leaves out. North and west of them, the older homes around the Main Street core need different work. See our Milton page for everything else we do in town.
A patio is a drainage job that is also a place to sit. We slope the slab about 2 percent away from the house, use 32 MPa air-entrained concrete for the freeze-thaw winters, and put it on a compacted granular base. The full method and specs are on our concrete patios page. This page covers what Milton ground and Milton homes change about that job.
New surveys: settling fill over heavy clay
The ground behind a new Milton house is builder fill, trucked in and rough-graded, and it keeps packing down for a year or two next to the foundation. Under it is heavy clay till that holds water and lifts when frost gets under a thin base. A patio poured too early can sink at the house edge and tip toward the wall.
So wait for the builder to set your final grade, and give the lot a season to settle. When we pour, we check the backfill first, dig to stable ground, and compact the granular base in lifts by machine instead of trusting the fill. Ask for the quote in spring, before the summer pour season fills.
Older homes near Main Street: keep water off the wall
Milton started as a mill settlement on Sixteen Mile Creek, and the brick and stone homes around the Main Street core are much older than the surveys. On clay, a patio that is flat or has settled toward the house sends rain and spring melt straight to that old foundation.
Before we pour beside an older home, we look at where the downspouts empty, how the yard drains, and whether old steps or slabs have sunk. If the wall already lets water in, we tell you, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Milton before a patio goes in on top of the problem.
Yards toward the escarpment
West toward Kelso, Rattlesnake Point and Mount Nemo, the clay thins out over limestone, with rock close to the surface in spots. That changes how deep a crew can dig for the base. We check what your yard sits on at the site visit, so the quote reflects the real ground.
A gazebo slab is not ordinary patio space. Bring the gazebo plan to the visit, and we plan the base, reinforcement and edge for it and quote the patio and the gazebo slab as one job. Milton books into our regular Halton schedule through the pouring season, and we reply to every request within one business day.
Straight answers
We just moved into a new Milton build. When can we pour a patio?
Wait for the builder to set your final grade, then give the lot a season to settle. The backyard is builder fill over clay, and it keeps packing down for a year or two next to a new foundation. We check the backfill and compact the base by machine before we pour, so the patio does not sink and tip toward the house.
Will a new patio make my older Milton basement wetter?
A patio sloped about 2 percent away from the house moves the water that lands on it away from the wall. It cannot fix water that comes from the roof or a neighbour's grade, so we check where the downspouts empty and how the yard drains at the site visit. If the yard needs regrading first, or your wall already leaks, we tell you before we pour.
How much does a concrete patio cost in Milton?
Size, the finish you pick, the base your ground needs and how easily the concrete can reach the backyard set the price. A new-survey lot often needs more base work, and a yard toward the escarpment can have rock close to the surface. You get a free written quote after a site visit, and the number on the quote is the number you pay unless you change the job.
Can you pour a gazebo slab with the patio?
Yes. Bring the gazebo plan to the site visit. We plan the base, reinforcement and edge for that gazebo before the pour, and quote the patio and the gazebo slab together.
