Stamped & Decorative Concrete in Milton
We pour stamped and decorative concrete across Milton: patios, front walks and driveway borders, from the new Mattamy surveys south of the 401 to the older homes near the Main Street core. A crack is harder to hide in a stamped surface than in a plain one, and Milton's ground is clay and settling builder fill, so the base under the pattern matters most. Union-certified crews handle the colour and stamping, the labour carries a lifetime warranty, and the written quote is free.

Stamped concrete is pressed and coloured to read as slate, flagstone, brick or plank. Exposed aggregate shows the stone in the surface. A tinted broom finish is the quietest upgrade. See our Milton page for everything else we pour and repair in town.
The full method, with the pattern families, the colour, the mix and the joints, is on our stamped and decorative concrete page. This page covers what Milton changes about the job: the fill and clay under the slab, and the wear on the sealer.
Settling fill and clay: why the base matters more under a pattern
The ground behind a new Milton house is builder fill, trucked in and rough-graded, and it keeps packing down for a year or two next to the foundation. Under it is heavy clay till that holds water and lifts when frost gets under a thin base. Every outdoor slab moves a little. On a broom finish a small crack is easy to live with. On a stamped surface it cuts across the stone pattern.
So the pattern starts below the slab. We check the backfill, dig to stable ground, compact the granular base in lifts by machine, slope the surface away from the house, and pour 32 MPa air-entrained concrete. We cut the control joints along the pattern's grout lines, so shrinkage opens inside a line your eye already reads as part of the stone.
New surveys and older streets
The new surveys of Hawthorne Village, Coates, Scott, Willmott, Ford and Cobban sit on builder fill that keeps settling, so we check the backfill before any pattern goes down.
Around the Main Street core, the brick and stone homes are much older. We bring colour samples to the site visit so you can hold them against your brick and stone. If an old wall already lets water in, we tell you first, and we can look at basement waterproofing in Milton before anything is poured beside it.
Sealer, salt and grip
Colour on stamped concrete lasts as long as the sealer over it. Sun, snow shovels and road salt wear that coat down, and once it is gone the colour goes flat. Plan to reseal every two to three years. We put that schedule in writing before you sign.
Sealed stamped concrete is slippery when wet, so we mix an anti-slip additive into every coat. New decorative concrete is still gaining strength through its first winter, so use sand for grip that first season, seal in the spring, and use salt sparingly after that.
Straight answers
Will a stamped patio crack on Milton clay?
Any outdoor slab can move as clay freezes, thaws and swells. We control where it moves: we dig to stable ground, compact the base in lifts, and cut the control joints along the grout lines so shrinkage opens inside the pattern. If a failure comes from our workmanship, the lifetime warranty on labour brings us back.
We just closed on a new build in Milton. When can we pour a stamped patio?
The new surveys sit on builder fill that keeps settling for a year or two next to the foundation, so we check the backfill and compact the base in lifts instead of trusting it. Book the free site visit and we will tell you what your lot needs before a date is set.
Stamped, exposed aggregate or tinted broom: which suits my Milton home?
Stamped reads as stone, brick or plank and gives the most decorative look. Exposed aggregate shows the stone in the surface. A tinted broom finish is the quietest upgrade. We bring samples to the site visit so you can hold them against your house.
How much does stamped concrete cost in Milton?
Stamped is priced as an upgrade over a plain broom finish. The size, the pattern, the number of colours, the hand detail and the base the ground needs all move the number. We do not post a figure, because it would mislead you. The free written quote can price the plain and stamped versions side by side, and the number we write down is the number you pay unless you change the job.
